Heavy vibration 80mph+

I'm noticing considerable vibration when I go around and above 80mph. Since I've recently bought the car I thought it might have been just rough roads I've been on and having stiffer suspension but that's clearly not the case. I'm assuming this is most likely a wheel balance issue. I thought I would check here first to see if it's a McLaren specific issue before I just take it to a tire shop.

Yes. If it is not wheel or tire related then it could be brake, steering or suspension related. Brake vibration occurs or is initiated when the brakes are applied—so from your problem description brakes can be excluded. Steering and suspension problems are usually worn component related. If your car is relatively new and has not been heavily tracked then wear is unlikely. So that leaves loose components—check for loose bolts, any steering links, suspension parts that seem loose.
Hope you find what’s wrong soon.

My car was doing that. It wasn’t the tires or the alignment. There is some sort of foam pads on the inside of the tires that fell off. I think they are used to make the ride more comfortable etc.
They replaced the tires under warranty and it solved the issue.

Have the tire shop check your wheels for balancing. You might of lost a wheel weight or could have a bent wheel. A bent wheel is easy to spot while spinning on the tire balancing machine. make sure the wheels are balanced to "zero". the tire guys will know exactly what that means...

My 570GT has had the same problem since new. Returned it to the dealer, who used the 'road force' (not sure that is the right wording) technique. Car is better now, but far from perfect. Imbalance still prevalent above 80mph. My wife says it's my built-in speed governor! I tell her it goes away above 100.

This happened on my 720 at 65 mph to 217 mph. The toe in was 1 degree the wrong way and the tyres out of round which was solved by inflating them to 80 psi whilst off the ground for 12 hours. Can be disks, balance etc.

All good now so I can cruise at 217 mph in comfort.

Tire guy told me that the foam was there to 'deaden' road noise. Suppose to zero out road-tire sound. ???? He then told me causing a lot of problems on fast cars, b/c the tires spin so fast, the foam breaks loose and flies around within. Don't know how heavy the foam blocks are, but apparently the velocity or something causes great tire disruption.

Message me if you are interested in a new set of R888R for the 570. It is a much better tire than the Corsa. The front is 235/35/19 and rear is 285/35/20. Smoking deal for anyone that needs them. I do not need them since I purchased Forgelines and moved to 245 front and 305 rear. I purchased these R888R for my stock wheels but went forward and just got a complete new set of wheels.

Just to update. I got all four replaced with new corsas. Tech guy at dealership didn't remove foam from the new ones and said the new tires have updated foam and glue so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. Let's hope so...
