My speced 750s is 470k and has almost every carbon option and senna seats. So much higher optioned than any 765lt I can find. So on one hand, have all the options I want vs the aggressive look of a 765.
The 750 will be your way, and a bit more civilized / broadly useful. The 765 will have more drama and Motorsport theater. They will both be ridiculously fast.

That was one possible pro if it did. Definitely not the focus of the OP
The bit I'm really struggling with is track usage. Do I really want to use a $400k car on track? Well, obviously, yes I do, but it's going to cost even more to track it than my current car, insurance is likely to be an issue, and to keep the manufacturer's warranty intact I'll have the cost of dealer track inspections for the next 3 years. I already worry about simple spins or off-track excursions!

I owns 765 spider. Have a 750 coupe on order. Both are great cars- slightly different. 750 more refined and I’m getting with comfort seats. 765 I have senna seats more raw. Prices on 750 have gone up considerably so one can argue the 765 is the better deal.

But if you are concerned about cost/depreciation, just get a 720 and call it a day. No one knows how the 750 will do long term and frankly if a coupe grand loss scares you this is not the hobby to be in.

It's very generous of those willing to just throw money at this hobby, which allows the rest of us to do it without breaking the bank. 😁

Oddly the conversation around depreciation expectations turns pretty elitist/asshole ish? I dont think the OP or anyone that has responded here has an issue losing money on a car purchase. But if you have multiple options in front of you that are enticing and will make you happy, then you start weighing pros and cons to come to a conclusion on what they should purchase. Depreciation just happens to be one of the factors that will be evaluated. If you happen to think something will lose 50k over 2 years of ownership vs another option losing 100k over 2 years of ownership, then it might push you one direction or the other. Not sure why people get upset over it being brought up. In the scenario posted above, the conclusion might just be ill buy the lose 50k first, then buy then buy the lose 100k in 2 years. Or it could be fuck it, i want what I want all be damned.

that decision is so intensely personal / situation specific / that pretty much nobody can give significant advice. (1) set a budget, (2) choose the funnest option, (3) choosing the car for the next guy / resale is no way to go through life. If you want to call me an asshole for telling you that choosing a car for resale over fun is dumb, I'm okay with that. You still be wrong.

But a bunch of people who HAVE NOT EVEN DRIVEN these cars are chiming in with "well, the difference between X & Y is really small so obviously not worth it". first, I suspect you're basically all wrong about how much difference there is between the 720 & 750, and 750 & 765 since the same characters tell me there's just not much room between the 720 and a 765 for the 750 to exist. Well, I own and track both the 720 and 765 and there is huge amount of room, so credibility of folks claiming there's no good midpoint for the 750 is basically nonexistent in my opinion.

And then there's whatever that delta is, what does "worth it" even mean. Only the OP can decide for himself if those differences are fun enough for the dollars. It's an entirely pointless discussion.

But "let's take the 765 brakes, steering and gearing and drop that into a 720 chassis" sounds entirely worth it to me. Huge differences IN FEELING between the cars there. Doesn't matter if the car is or isn't faster when the experience of driving it is that much more enjoyable. No idea how the new suspension will feel on the 750. That's a wild card. Can't wait to find out.

I don't think anyone is choosing a car for resale over fun, the resale value/depreciation is just one of the factors being considered. Is the fun factor difference between a 765 & a 720, for example, worth the extra cost of depreciation on the 720? As @alexceres says, this is a very personal decision based on what you're going to do with the car, how much cash you have to spend on cars, and, in the case of the 750, which car you currently own. Those who can't live with any kind of significant depreciation, or risk of depreciation, aren't buying any of these cars. My car is probably at the low end of the McLaren depreciation curve, but over the 2.5 years I've had it, just the total cost of ownership is probably roughly equivalent to the new price of a car most people can't afford anyway.

Good post. The biggest problem here is usually the people with the loudest opinions are the ones who don’t own, will not own, cannot afford to own any of the cars in question. It just takes away from the discussion. Cars are gonna depreciate. That’s a fact. Buy what makes sense to you and enjoy the drive.

He's the Thomas Kinkade of forum posting.
And you are a kindergartener with crayons. Seriously, you own a 7 year old entry level mclaren. Arguably the worst car they have made. Maybe for once just stick to threads that pertain to your car instead of polluting every single thread with your nonsense.

for the life of me I can’t understand why you feel compelled to comment on cars that you don’t own, and doubt have even driven.

maybe sit a few threads out. The forum will be a better place.
