Oddly the conversation around depreciation expectations turns pretty elitist/asshole ish? I dont think the OP or anyone that has responded here has an issue losing money on a car purchase. But if you have multiple options in front of you that are enticing and will make you happy, then you start weighing pros and cons to come to a conclusion on what they should purchase. Depreciation just happens to be one of the factors that will be evaluated. If you happen to think something will lose 50k over 2 years of ownership vs another option losing 100k over 2 years of ownership, then it might push you one direction or the other. Not sure why people get upset over it being brought up. In the scenario posted above, the conclusion might just be ill buy the lose 50k first, then buy then buy the lose 100k in 2 years. Or it could be fuck it, i want what I want all be damned.
that decision is so intensely personal / situation specific / that pretty much nobody can give significant advice. (1) set a budget, (2) choose the funnest option, (3) choosing the car for the next guy / resale is no way to go through life. If you want to call me an asshole for telling you that choosing a car for resale over fun is dumb, I'm okay with that. You still be wrong.
But a bunch of people who HAVE NOT EVEN DRIVEN these cars are chiming in with "well, the difference between X & Y is really small so obviously not worth it". first, I suspect you're basically all wrong about how much difference there is between the 720 & 750, and 750 & 765 since the same characters tell me there's just not much room between the 720 and a 765 for the 750 to exist. Well, I own and track both the 720 and 765 and there is huge amount of room, so credibility of folks claiming there's no good midpoint for the 750 is basically nonexistent in my opinion.
And then there's whatever that delta is, what does "worth it" even mean. Only the OP can decide for himself if those differences are fun enough for the dollars. It's an entirely pointless discussion.
But "let's take the 765 brakes, steering and gearing and drop that into a 720 chassis" sounds entirely worth it
to me. Huge differences IN FEELING between the cars there. Doesn't matter if the car is or isn't faster when the experience of driving it is that much more enjoyable. No idea how the new suspension will feel on the 750. That's a wild card. Can't wait to find out.
