Now a few observations from the first
drives.

The seat control placement is still ridiculous. The brake pressure seems hard. The display is rather simple and not too modifiable. The power and handling is however incredible. I do like the looks both exterior and interior.
You got the wrong seats :)

So apparently my time to configure has come. I think I'm just going to take the techLuxe interior as it's mostly leather. Only 2 things about it that I would like to tweak.

1) I dont like the Alcantara fork-graphic in the seat, and if I could make that just all leather, that would be my preference.

2) When you toggle back and forth between the TechLux and standard interior, the bezel around the infotainment screen goes from jet black in the standard interior vs black titanium in the techLux package. I like how the jet black bezel looks better (and makes the interior seem less busy, although I like the black titanium on the steering wheel and elsewhere), at least in the configurator. But if that jet black piece is like piano black plastic, it might feel cheaper and/or be a fingerprint smudge magnet. Anyone have experience with both bezels, and can speak to pluses/minuses between them?

Im considering upgrading to the MSO custom interior. It's only about 15k. The TechLux is like 9k. So 6k to pay to make the little bit of Alcantara go away and change a bezel. Is it dumb to do, or would you guys just get the techlux and be done with it?

Wow. I didn’t realize that about the base bezel. I like it more too (and now wish I had it).

I would’ve gone custom (to get more color), but was told it would delay the production. I went with Performance because I wanted alcantara.

not sure about choosing leather but my 720S coupe with luxury package which is an upgrade like the performance package has lower resale value? while a base model comes with alcantara with no upgrade in price has a higher resale than a luxury? I would go with the performance just for that. I like my 720S leather interior though. MSO would even be a plus.

Just to put this in context. I super appreciate that feedback and I think it will be valuable to others. I bought my 2012 12c new and still own it. Resale really doesnt mean anything to me. Nor does depreciation. This is pure enjoyment and also minimizing maintenance (eg more finger smudges or not to tend to) for me. I think your advice is sound, and also, counter intuitive, so it it's really a valuable insight. So thanks for sharing it. But for me, the resale factor is less important.

And as such, what I'm not sure of is the photo makes the black bezel look good and makes the interior more minimalist, but I cant tell what the material is, and if in reality, it might be kind of lame despite looking more 'stealth' black in the configurator. And I'm also kind of curious what the steering wheel bottom material is too.

I did this to make everything alcantara (everything) and the black bezel. You spend a lot of time in the interior ... seems more worth it than a random bit of exterior carbon trim you never see while driving

This. Mine has/had carbon inside and not outside, and I still spend quite a bit of time appreciating the interior carbon. On the outside, the only pieces that might give me that much satisfaction are the mirrors and wing louvres.

Thanks so much Alex. Appreciate the sanity check.

Did you get the black bezel and the black steering wheel bottom? If you did would you mind commenting on how you like them. Do they feel nice. Are they fingerprint magnets?

Can you tell what they are made of? I assume the black bezel surround is the same material as that houses the dials on the left side of the bezel? And that the bezel material is different than the plastic up on the finger tip controls up on the dash by the wheel?

I can tell you that the interior carbon doesn't show fingerprints.

I have tech lux interior. ( I’m not a fan of the ti wheel and shifter). I do miss my old 720 Mat CF look and feel.

I like the bezels in it.

The power seat/heated are the same as always but the stitch pattern seems different.

Overall. It’s just a soso deal

Not buyer’s remorse. But I’d prob save the $ and go with the CF wheel/paddle and base interior if you are okay with a more plain seat option

I stopped by the dealership at McLaren Dallas. Very nice folks. Simon helped out and was a totally helpful and very nice gent. And he was also supremely well informed. A very nice gent, and highly recommended.

Anyway, he let me check out a few colors. I got to sit in the 750 and remember yes it is tighter in there than in a 12C, but the glass roof does give us taller folks a couple of extra inches of head room in the spider.

I got to touch the plastic piece that was on the side of the bezel by the dial/buttons. It does not finger print. It's very solid. The black titanium also does not fingerprint. Both are nice. The dark titanium obviously the more premium, but the dark black plastic feels very solid, so for my stealth reasons, will be fine. The metal on the steering wheel is very nice. It feels like terminator materials.

The metal titanium gearshift paddles are nice. They are bigger. They dont feel like ingots I was hoping for. They feel a bit light, and almost plastic'y. But feel fine for the task.

Lastly, I was shocked and saddened regarding the seats. I did get to sit in the Senna seats. All I can say for those that love them, is bless your heart. Just exhaling sitting in them, I felt like a snake was going to constrict on me. Getting in with the top down was not terrible. Getting out even with the top up was not fun, and I cant imagine doing much other than crawling out with the top down. Worse, even sitting in the thing, I just wondered when my punishment would be over and I could get out. It just jabbed at me. The seat had some thinner pads, so I more or less fit in it, but this was not for me.

They did not have the sport seats for me to try (it was raining hard out so they may have some in inventory, but really couldn't get out to it).

The sad news is the 'new' comfort seats stink compared to the old comfort seats. First, the base seat will not tilt up or down. Second, it is much more narrow in that the bolsters on at your butt dig into you there more to hold you in, but that kind of feels like a pea in the mattress at your buns/hips. The side bolsters are more prominent too, but they are ok. Third, the materials are way more firm cushions than the old comfort seats. Overall, it's just bleh, terrible. I don't get how no one has commented on this shift from the old comfort seats (that I guess were standard up to around 2015), to these new awful comfort seats. It's the pits.

Worse, there really is no other option. I guess we have the P1 seats I need to try. But oh my, it's a sad state of affairs in comfort and Mclaren seating. For those that enjoy long road trips, Im not sure what you are to do.

One option that was presented is to maybe get the manual version of the comfort seat. I was told it's possible to manually adjust the rake of the manual seat bottom a little bit, but it will be permanent, so it would have to work for me and my girl equally, which is not ideal.

Im honestly wondering if I can retrofit the old comfort seats into the car. I guess I need to find and try the P1 seats and pray they work better. I guess I can live with the new comfort seats if forced, but they are a major step down from the original comfort seats, which are just fantastic for long road trips etc. I dont get why no one has mentioned this garish 'upgrade' and step down in comfort. And I think they still weigh a lot, so what the heck was the reason to move to these, other than to make everything worse? Bizarre.
