Hi everybody, just picked up my 750S last Thursday and already put about 2200km on it by doing a nice run in through the Swiss and Austrian alps ending on a long unrestricted German Autobahn ride back home to Zurich. I have to say, the car is incredible. I have the 992GTRS and GT4RS to compare it with and this is a different ball game imo. Cant wait to get it on the track soon. My only problem is now, that the use case for my Porsches is pretty much gone and I had to realize to really push the break pedal hard to get it started 🤣
That’s actually more common on newer McLarens than most people think — especially after a long drive or high-temp cycle. What’s happening is often not mechanical but rather a threshold misread by the brake pressure sensor.
These cars rely on a specific pressure signal from the brake system to trigger ignition authorization — not just brake light activation. If there’s even a slight delay or the pressure reading drifts from expected norms, the car thinks the pedal isn’t being firmly pressed.
What’s helped in a few cases I’ve worked on:
  • Checking the brake pressure sensor feedback in live data (should show above 50 bar when firmly pressed)
  • Recalibrating the sensor if it’s reading slightly low, even when brakes feel fine
  • Looking at any delayed wake-up sequence from the Body Control Module (which sometimes lags on low voltage or after software updates)
It’s not something that always throws a warning, but if it gets worse, worth looking at signal behavior before replacing anything. I've seen people go down the wrong rabbit hole replacing brake switches when it's actually ECU-side logic.

Had mine on track for a little bit at VIR.
Lord have mercy. Not really willing to push it- drove about 8 tenths. Seriously fast.
Talking with a guy in the morning asking how fast I thought it would go on South Course (only 1.65 miles, about 3/5 of back straight for full course)- I said probably 150. He laughed, thought I was joking. I did 155 repeatedly, again at 8 tenths. I find the turn in crisp, especially for a street car, super responsive to inputs. An engineering marvel for a street car, this comfortable.

Only issue for me- tire pressure. Didn't feel like coming in to bleed down, didn't want to start too low. So, starting at 25 -> 36. In an ideal world, I would start at 26, bleed down to 30ish (guessing, haven't really investigated specific target). Goodyear Eagle F1 (I find them superior/more consistent to the new formula PS2s). Not sure I want try starting much lower than 25 (DOT sidewalls are just not stiff enough to my mind to go lower, unless you wanted to tip toe around for 3-4 laps)

Minor issue- sucks down fuel bigly. Not sure you could make a 30 minute session (I came in as tires got sketchy after about 15 minutes with about 1/2 tank)

if I was serious and willing to push it, crazy fast. A dumb part of me really wants to try slicks. I have race cars for that, but tempting.
Great write-up. Spot on with the temp pressure rise — especially on the F1 3Rs. They tend to overshoot once you get past lap 5 or 6 unless you bleed early.
On the 750, the thermal load around the front axle is wild compared to most cars — not just because of weight or balance, but because of how aggressively the active dampers transfer cornering energy under braking. I’ve logged telemetry where the fronts climb 11–13 psi in under 10 minutes of hard driving (Big Willow, ambient 26°C).
The trick we’ve found with these cars is:
  • Set pressures at 26 front / 27 rear cold for Goodyear F1s
  • Bleed at exactly 6–7 mins into the session to avoid overcorrecting
  • Ideally shoot for 31–32 hot max, beyond that they start losing lateral bite fast
Bonus note — tire temp warnings can sometimes override fuel warnings on the dash. So if you're getting that persistent pressure squawk in Track Mode, it might suppress low-fuel warnings. I’ve seen guys run out unexpectedly because of that exact behavior.
If you’re doing back-to-back sessions, definitely worth pulling logs — pressure behavior can vary a lot if you skip cooldown laps.

I drove my 750 on Sonoma Raceway on a Thursday & then from Friday to Sunday drove 651 road miles on some of the best roads in North America: Highway 299, the Pacific Coast Highway, The Avenue of Giants, the Redwood Highway & then Highway 128 to Napa Valley. California has lots of problems but amazing roads are not one of them. I now have over 5000 miles on my car & it seems to get better & faster. Zero issues. Fabulous on the road and track.

Sonoma is a super fun track. Great road trip pics also.

Just curious if anyone here cross shopped their 750S vs 296? I drove a 296 on track recently and was thoroughly impressed. Not just the power but also the handling. Felt light like a McLaren finally. I have not driven a 750S yet, but will soon (on track), looking forward to the comparison.

Plenty of guys here have. You can search for it (not saying it as dick even if it sounds that way, but because it has been covered and you will find some useful information on it).

Consensus here is that guys prefer the 750. Consensus on FChat is that guys prefer the 296. Not unexpected, tbh.

Can't go wrong with either. 750 should hold value substantially better considering it's not a hybrid. Plus the 750 is a solid 500 lbs lighter. But I still tip my cap to the 296, great bang for the buck car!

Thanks. I usually search first. Read the 296 thread here and didn't see much first hand feedback from actual owners. I like hearing from people who bought the cars and lives with them.

The downside of searching too, is that sometimes the comments are a year old (if not older), and some of that information may not be relevant anymore. Someone’s opinion may have changed after the cars honeymoon phase is over, went for a second test drive with the other car, etc.

It never hurts to ask, I just haven’t seen anyone else mentioning the 296 here recently. I know @Jo_sta7 has one and really likes it fwiw. He does not have a 750 though, but a 765. Like @06viper said, it’s one hell of a value play, there is no denying that. So is the ZR1 though…

My only comment is the top photo was kept for a year and the bottom photo replaced it and I'm VERY glad I switched. (And I have the same position on fchat)
