Sadly the dealerships vary widely in quality. I feel they need to have more quality controls in place over the dealerships. You have amazing dealerships like McLaren Philly that are just so good, and then others, like the one you experienced, that service multiple brands, have harried/overworked techs that frankly are not specialized in the cars (because they also service 3-4 other brands). They are all good people, but the lack of focus, sadly, shows through, so much so that I ship my car cross country because the local dealer (while again, are super nice people), just are not at the level they need to be.
This is a big part of the problem, the dealers operate as monopolies. If I could use Philly, I would!

This is exactly how I feel too, although my reasons are slightly different. The cars themselves are peerless when it comes to the driving experience, but owning them and trying to stay within the dealer/warranty network is absolutely miserable. The time it takes, the price they charge, the quality of the work, and the absolutely fubar CPO system, they all combine to make ownership only marginally worthwhile for me. I picked mine up from the dealer a couple of weeks ago, and after handing over $1700 for a smoke test and new air filters, they handed back a car with an incorrectly fitted engine cover. If it's immediately obvious to me, why did nobody notice?
which dealer to avoid?

I dont think you'll get too many people to chime in here. For a few reasons. 1) just because I, or some individual, had a bad time does not necessarily mean it's representative. 2) I think people fear reprisals of one form or another. 3) I think it comes off as touch bad manners too.

Then again, that's just me. Others MMV.

I also think it's a systemic problem. I'd say I'm oh for three so far.

I‘ll repeat myself: McLaren has never got me stranded but has a fair share of niggles. MB and Audi got me stranded in the most imaginative ways. I did return three AMG in a row eg. At the same time, McLs are fantastic to drive. Happy customer here.
Alfa : stranded
Merc : stranded, twice
Jag : 3 cars, two had major issues
570s : impeccable
720s : Friday car, in dealer for 6 months of 23 months ownership but never broke down

Now onto a 750s .. we will see :)
