In the previous cars. The aero button puts the spoiler in a half up position. More pressure on the rear but not as aero dynamic.

I?m not sure how much it matters on a track. But I don?t notice much difference in the canyons with aero on

Otherwise it just comes up fully under aburpt braking.

 

the air brake operates either way. i sometimes use the aero button when someone is following too close to deter them, i have also used it to work with my braking lightly or using my turn signals, i have to admit it is a fun feature to play with and help keep rear traffic in check.

 

The most practical application is when you need to clean under the wing. ��

 

I always drive with the aero button pushed since it looks cooler

The only downside is sometimes I get random air brake faults...I don't think I've ever had one without the aero button pressed.

 

McLaren are now recommending that you always stop and start the 720 with the rear wing in the lowest position. From what I understand doing this helps the car with its wake-up procedure.

Less drag if wing is down, and you are just travelling long distance on a motorway at speed.

More downforce and drag with the wing deployed. Good for track.

 

Well a year later, I can answer this question. The Aero button is just for looks. If you are on the track, then leave it off. The rear wing activates on it's own at 90mph+ so the Aero button is for us to show off since we aren't often traveling at those speeds.

As for leaving the wing up while the car is off. I will always leave it up. I feel having it down is almost as blasphemy as parking with the vehicle lift up. If my car breaks because of that, then that's what the warranty is for.

Also, I have unfortunately been caught with the air brake fault. It was due to a malfunctioning sensor.

 

I know this was a while ago, but I’m a new 720S owner and I just learned from another forum that the car’s DRS function only works when the aero button is pressed (think of it like a dynamic button for aero), and I confirm this because when it is pressed it goes back down under close to full throttle.

 

I'm the same, I love having it up, makes it look very cool. It's second nature to cut off the automatic shut off and raise the aero.

 

Guess I'm one of the few that thinks the 720 looks better with the wing down. I almost never left mine up, especially when parked.

 

not really ... I sometimes like the sleek look more and when parking in cities always put it down so it attracts less attraction

 

I believe the push of the aero button is if you want more downforce in slower corners, hence mclaren gives you the option.
