Does anyone know total production number for the 12C by year, country, and type (spider/coupe)?

McLaren do, but I don't think that is information they are handing out.

I went scavenging for VINs yesterday and found a Spider in Atlanta that ended with ...3476 so by now they are over 3,500 cars since introduction.

Yes - it was the Volcano Yellow 12C Spider that Sergio Perez drove into the company's 50th Anniversary celebration event at the MTC in early Sept 2013.

I was told I have a November 2013 produced 2014 MP4 Spider for northern California priced at $325,040 USD, my VIN # SBM11BAA3EW002938, I shall let others tell me what the numbers and letters mean but thinking 2938 is the number we are looking at here and supposedly not many MP4 built after this date since 650s was talked about. So does the 2938 represent Spiders only or All MP4's.
Also, if I may inquire, one person here spoke about the engine and transmission feeling different, smoother, stronger more solid? If this is true, is it due to improvements made from the first MP4's such as the swipe door, or the place for a rear camera, or the IRIS II, or the Carbon brake options etc. which are obvious differences. Does anyone know what was done to engine since the MP4 had different parts form the 650s, so were there improved MP4 engine parts or were 650s engine parts included in late MP4s, I hope it is not the latter.

I can answer the easiest question - 2938 would include all MP4-12C's produced from the birth of the new McLaren Automotive brand - both Coupe and Spider.

It is sad McLaren cannot provide its owners with the production numbers, but it is not rocket science, amongst all of us on the forum we can figure it all out.
Please post if you have a later production month and vin number than 2970 and we shall go from there, also please post the model and spider or coupe please.. Also post if you have a 650s and P1 so we can see if a new count was started or not. ..

btw, Ferrari just announced no more NA 8 cylinder motors, I am thinking the Speciale will be in major demand soon.

Thank you scottch, this should confirm the approx. just under 3500 total for the MP4 line unless P1 and 650s were thrown in which I doubt because it was too soon , even so we now can feel pretty comfortable with the 3500 produced number for the world which is small. From reading above, it also seems to state that it took a long time to ship some of the autos I, am thinking those with November/December build dates were special ordered as such. The overflow to all dealers which seems like an extra high production period seems to have been created in October to allow tooling set up for the 650s. Temporary flooding the market ,which is just now starting to stabilize and improve over a year later seems, perhaps, mostly due to everyone panicking unrealistically on buyer and seller side??? Realistically speaking, now that we know the flooding was due to approx. 400 MP4s that is not bad since they are all finding appreciative homes. With the history of the MP4 and the MP4 name to place these autos I expect there will be many rewards for the current owners, time will tell. This also tells us that McLaren planned much sooner than shared to discontinue the MP4 and make ready the 650s. I am thinking the decision was made no later than August 2013, yet the public was not told until closer to March 2014 approx.. 6-7 months later. Perhaps we can also speculate that the MP4 name was planed and that the dealers will never see another MP4 grace its showrooms. I feel the future is just now being revealed for our MP4, hold on to it, do not sell them for less than you paid for them new... We do not even know the full potential of the MP4, especially since someone just recorded a 9.1 second 144 mph run with a little tuning (see new posts).
Approx. 400 MP4s were built in October Time Frame but some of the lower serial numbers with later production dates of November and December might have been special ordered. For the most part, from above information, until others chime in, it sounds like production more or less stopped in October 2013.
Can others tell me if this makes some sense, especially since we have to figure it out on our own since McLaren does not want to share with its owners? This detective work is kind of fun, my bouncing around may be confusing, sorry, I guess I am excited...

Not 9.1 but 9.97 or so. 9.1 would shoot the value of the car north of 500k in a heartbeat.
