Life happens and money crunches happen- especially for entrepreneurs who dont get a regular paycheck and whose income varies.

I sort of fall into that category where my income varies widely depending on how well work is going. This is also the reason that for me I aways just pay cash for my toys. If hard times come- im not in a bind. I can take my time and liquidate my toy if needed and the monthly payments arent a burden.

Selling a limited edition car is always going to raise eyebrows. I have no clue what Mclaren corporate is going to do in this case but if I was wanting to sell- id sell it back to my dealer if it had not been so long since I got the car.

Curious what the dealer has to say about this.

How does tying up cash in an asset help over having the cash on hand help in a bind?

Call me conservative but I dont want to deal with monthly payments if I dont have to. How many crypto bros are struggling right now cause they cant make the monthly payments on their toys? how many people took out loans to invest in the market and are now down 40%?

Different strokes for different folks but I dont want the financial burden of monthly payments. Id rather pay cash and be done with it.

My approach is not for everyone but works just fine for me.

LOL. Yeah, my wife is just as illogical!

that’s usually the typical excuse people try to use when flipping . If you fall on hard times then I’m guessing you wouldn’t be able to buy limited editions going forward or any supercars going forward.
Not necessarily, people can and do recover. To what extent I can’t comment since I don’t know anyone super wealthy, but I can say that I went from being dead broke having to live off $20/week, living in a storage facility illegally after I got out, to owning a home worth about a mil (which I’m sure is pocket change for some on here, maybe even you, but a huge deal to me), a few decent cars (albeit no McLarens), and my family is always taken care of, something I never thought was going to happen.

Maybe it is different though when talking about limited edition McLaren money though, I can’t speak on that obviously.

It's no different man. I'm selling the car because I need the money for a family expense... If I had just gotten the car, I wouldn't sell it. It's kind of the perfect storm... I have to shift priorities a bit to family and I've already done everything I could have dreamed of with the car. That is why it is going.

Well clearly you should be indiscriminately punished for this decision and shadow banned for life by Mclaren.

Oh I get it, and I think it is ridiculous that people get banned for buying and selling cars “too soon”.

I saw your ad on BaT. It will be interesting to see how high the bidding gets. The last 2 765 Coupes on BaT sold at about $80k over MSRP. I suspect the market is declining, but you never know.

I had spoken to McLaren Corporate about people flipping their 765 LT Spiders when I my allocation didn't come through. They do understand if you have pressing circumstances and need to sell the car and they won't ban you in the future. They do prefer you to sell your car through a dealer, however, and that usually buys good will. You should make sure they understand your circumstances when selling the car to prevent future banning.

Aftermarket downpipes will void a warranty claim for any powertrain-related issue. Search some of my old posts to read about my fiasco with high-flow downpipes.

What is "shadow banning" and what is the purpose of that?

When I placed my deposit for a 765LT Spider, my dealer did say that it had to be "approved" by McLaren Corporate and they wanted a list of my McLaren history. My deposit was approved but my dealer selected another client to get my allocation... So, I moved the deposit to the yet unannounced 720 replacement. Oh well.. First World Problems.

Speaking of shadow banning.... lol. Wasn't that you that unmac was alluding to earlier?? He seems to love to shaft you at every opportunity. Keep close tabs on that 750 deposit.....

Sorry to steal the post.... Who knows??? Perhaps I have been "shadow banned" but my dealer said my deposit was approved by McLaren Corporate (and they took my deposit on a "750"). So perhaps my dealer "shadow banned" me? Does that mean the dealer selects everyone else BUT you for an allocation after they take your deposit?? Hmm...

I'm selling my Serpentine 765LT Spider on Bring a Trailer if anyone is interested. Auction ends on Friday 11/25. Happy bidding and God Bless!

beautiful car. I love this spec. Glad you got to put some miles on it. Sorry to see it go so soon

it’s life in the limited edition world. A ton of people wanted this car. A lot of people got shafted. OP wants to snag a profit based on the current market value instead of MSRP at his dealer. That’s an unpopular move with all the guys who got denied an allocation and with Woking.

This isn’t a McLaren specific thing. Failing to return the car to your dealer is a great way to move down the list anywhere. Any car that has more demand than supply, the dealers will prioritize customers they expect will return the car, or charge adm / market value instead of MSRP.

it doesn’t but it sounds like his approach to self manage leverage, and that is important. Not everyone has a stable job and accumulated nest egg, but a more dynamic high income situation. Varies a lot between industries.
Or someone with a high income and high nest egg doesn’t want to deal with payments so they pay off their toys and not worry about it.
