Hello all,

It's been my dream to have two supercars in my garage. My dream car is my 765LT. Its new "baby" brother is this gorgeous 2015 650S Spider. To say I am excited is an understatement.

My only gripe with the car so far are the tiny stock paddles. I have the carbon paddles on my 765LT and hope to get something similar for the 650S.

I just want more time behind the wheel of a McLaren. Prior to the 765LT I had a 720S Spider which I loved. And with it I also had a BMW M8 Comp (also a great car.) This 650 will take the place of both the BMW and the 720S since it's a spider, and also at a point in its depreciation curve in which I can just stack the miles on it and not care.

I love driving McLarens... I want to be behind the wheel as much as possible! 765LT is more of a "special event" to drive...

I'm not sure I selected that color combo in particular, this car just had it and I liked it. I wouldn't have minded a "louder" color but the two cars - as cirrus grey and carbon black - complement each other nicely in the garage, particularly since both sets of calipers are McLaren Orange.

I'm smitten with the 650S. As Chris Harris always says, looks are subjective. To my eye the lines of the 650S are "classic." It'll look fantastic 20 years from now. Frank Stephenson seems to share my taste in design. I like his other designs as well. And you're right; the price performance ratio is fantastic. I have no idea why they're so cheap (compared to a 458 Italia for example) other than the McLaren owners that have service issues complain louder than Ferrari owners. (Watch, my 650S will now cause me trouble and I'll be one of those complainers.)

Exactly. I actually started down the Ferrari rabbit hole as I've always wanted one but never owned one. So I started looking at 458s, ended up deciding a 488 would fit better and then nearly went for an F8. ("Well, that escalated quickly.") I even spent $1k doing a PPI on a 488 (didn't like what I found.)

I kept toying with the idea of a 570 or 650 instead. It's pretty wild that the 650 is actually a better performer than the 488 and I'm even able to get in at a low price point in a Spider variant. It's just too good of a package to turn down, and I agree of course, it just looks amazing. Of course I feel that way about just all of the McLarens, save perhaps the front end of the 12C. (Still a good looking car, just doesn't share the design language of all that came afterward.)

I enjoy all of the fun reactions I get from the McLarens I've owned. I drove the 650S twice and got just as many smiles, thumbs up, and cell phone snapping pictures. Turns heads like all the other McLarens out there. What a deal at just under $150k... and 12 month CPO included!

@Michaelj Please don't tell me that's your garage. I have a shoehorn the size of a snow shovel to park my two dream cars in my "2-car" California rabbit hutch.

But since @WellingtonGuy posted his Supernova Silver (which I had a hankering for), I'll post my Volcano Red example... which the iPhone fiddled into a brighter red than it appears... or maybe it was the California sun... but it's still fetching.

Congrats, looks awesome! Is that color considered carbon black, or onyx black? Share some more shots when you aren't busy driving it and living the dream! ;)

I too just weeks ago got a 2016 650S, black as well, red interior. Needed quite a bit of work out of the gate(of course the scum bag used dealer made not mention, and a fake PPI.. long story and doesn't matter at this point), some of it being done at the dealer and I will have it back tomorrow.

This color is carbon black. The dealer had another 650S Spider in "fire black" which is a truly awesome color - black with red flakes in it - and a better spec. But that car was in limp mode, had a bunch of issues, and the dealer didn't want to sell it. Sounds like it's going to auction.

I'll definitely be taking plenty of pictures of this beauty!

Have had the car for a few days and to say I'm impressed is an understatement.

This car gets just as much positive reaction as the 765LT and is an absolute pleasure to drive. And having a Spider again is just marvelous. The power delivery is even and smooth. Still a beast with the HP/torque/weight combination. The cabin interface is pretty good too, given its age. I enjoy having climate controls on the doors. And the screen, though small, is pretty functional. Haven't decided if I'll do Carplay on this one, but I probably will.

Had a nice rip this morning with a few other McLarens and a couple of off-brand cars. Kept up with a 765LT without breaking a sweat, but of course, then again, we weren’t racing. The car is definitely in its own league with other modern supercars.

Minor gripes - the backup camera renders slowly and the angle/video quality makes it just "ok." And can't run in track mode without traction control coming off - glad I figured that out the easy way instead of the hard way. I miss soft close more than I thought I would - one definitely needs to give these doors a good “shove” to get them seated. And the latch for the boot is kind of a pain to release, I have work at it a bit to get it to open.

But that’s about it. Almost nothing to complain about and everything to love. This is one of those cars that pictures really don’t do enough justice for.

Thanks for letting me share!

Those first two pictures are quite striking. I'm not a black car guy by nature but your car definitely has presence. What's the last four digits of the VIN? (I'm 6262.)

Quite envious that there's a McLaren coffee klatch near you. McLarens are rare at Cars & Coffee here in the San Francisco peninsula... even though there are 3 dealerships in the SF Bay Area. Maybe dealerships should host more gatherings... although maybe the ownership cohort--at least around here--won't show up. Same with AMG wagons. VERY rare at C&Cs... like in 6 months I might see 2-3 other wagons... and it's usually the same person (Hi, Kaëthe!). Any suggestions?

If there were a way to gather town/state of McLaren owners, could set up in a Google map, which is what I did for a national professional group I'm a member of. But I notice not many McLarenLifers put their location in their profile.

Thank you, SerottaD. My VIN ends with 3746.

I almost never see a McLaren, ANY McLaren on the roads driving around, unless I'm specifically going to a car get together of some kind. Beyond rare. There's a guy who owns a 570S in my town, I've seen him driving it once and I've never met him.

I agree, it would be nice to find an easier way to get McLaren owners together. We have created a small whatsapp group chat for "North Jersey Mac Owners," although anyone close enough (eastern PA, NY, etc.) would also be welcome. If anyone is reading this and would like an invitation just let me know.

You are spot on with your analysis as it relates to body design and long term classic. The 650S will be a timeless design and they absolutely was way ahead of its time. I’ve had mine for almost 10yrs and will never get rid of it. I’ve owned a Lambo and a 458 and my 650S tracked and drive better than both. Price not much a differentiator when you find the one that checks all the boxes and the 650S McLaren nailed it. That front end view will never get old!
