Ive drank the kool aid of Mclaren and currently have an all Mclaren garage. A 2022 765 LT Spider and just added a 2016 675 LT with a roof scoop. My journey has taken me from owning a bunch of Porsches (now all sold expect for Taycan daily driver which will be sold soon) and several Ferraris (also sold). And as we wait for my new house to be built - scheduled completion April 2024 where I will have the ability to park/display up to 12 cars, this is all im going to be adding to the garage at the moment. 750 in the future but likely that will come once house is done.

With regards to the all mclaren garage, this is not to say I wont ever buy another Ferrari- I enjoy the power and prestige and history of Ferrari but at the current moment I did not find any Ferraris that I enjoyed enough to add over my two current cars. The SF90 too big, too heavy and hearing lots of issues. I sold my Pista and while it was a brilliant vehicle, the aluminum chasis and body roll left a lot to be desired. Roma/Portifino I have no interest in. I do have a deposit on a 296 and will probably add that in a few years but need to do more research before final decision. Their limited edition cars are brilliant (TDF, Monza etc) but basically unobtainable.

With regards to Porsche- Im just done with the brand. The arrogance of the dealers, the need to kiss an idiot sales persons ass to get a 500 hp sports car, the ridiculous 50-100k ADMS which the Porsche fanboys just lap up, the taking the same basic car, adding some paint and trim and calling it a special edition- just not worth it to me. A new GT3 RS is selling for 300k and dealers are asking 150k ADM and they laugh at you when you. question selling above MSRP. The whole brand currently is just polluted. Its a shame cause they do make some decent cars but the entire Porsche ecosystem-They suck. Im done.

This leaves me with Mclaren. Ever since I got my first 720 Ive fallen in love with the cars. the way they look, the way they drive, the carbon tub. The carbon tub is the magic sauce- it makes the car feel so stiff and connected. Its wonderful.

After my 720, I was able to secure an allocation for a 765 Spider which IMHO is the best car Ive ever owned. Its magical. And ofcourse every Mclaren owner that I spoke to who has been in the Mclaren eco system and has a bunch of the hypercard (P1, Senna, Elva etc) would speak so highly of the 675 that I had to have one. So last week I finalized the deal on a 2016 LT. Originally I was going to just get a regular coupe but changed my mind and switched to a more rare 1 or 18 factory original in the US roof scoop version.

Below are my initial thoughts after about 100 or so miles in the last few days. All of this I will speak relative to the 765 as there have been many questions that Ive seen asking to compare the two.

Power - Winner 765 hands down with regards to having more power. While the 675 is no slouch, 765 just will outgun the 675 no issues. However, thats not necessarily a good thing. The 675 while having less power, its more drivable. The 765 is just scary fast if you push the pedal all the way down. the 675 is fast as hell, but more manageable. There is plenty of power in the 675 and while the 765 has more, I would say in terms of driving- both are great but different in how they deliver the power.

Comfort - I have the P1 seats in the 675 and frankly whoever designed these should be shot. I hate these seats. My 765 has the Senna seats and while its a bit more difficult to get in and out of the Senna seats- once you are in them they are super comfortable. The P1 seats are just super narrow so not only difficult ot get in and out of, but tight when you are seated. Ill be looking out for some alternatives later likely as I hate the P1 seats. I asked to get a couple of seats ordered and was quoted 28k from MSO. Umm- no. Will find a salvaged 650 and just pull the seats if I can find the right ones. Or some 720 comfort seats. Regardless- comfort seats are the way to go but from an esthetic perspective, Senna looks the best, then P1.

Handling - Man this is a wash. Both are just so connected to the road. Both amazing. So tight- no body roll. My Pista used to sit like a 4x4 from the factory - I had to get novitec springs and lower the car a bit but it still have body roll compared to my Mclarens. Both 765 and 675 just wonderful in how connected they are.

Visibility - Since my 765 is a spider- if I have the rear wing down, I have better visibility. But if I put the rear wing up- I cant see out the back. The 675 you have decent visibility but not great. Its pretty tight cocoon in there. Snug in a good way. I would give the edge to 765.

Build quality - No issues on either one so far. I would say build quality is excellent on both.

Esthetics - totally subjective and while I think the 765 is one of the best looking cars out there- 675 with the roof scoop is no slouch. You decide.

Sound- I think I have to give this to the 675. Probably because of the roof scoop. Probably because of the coupe vs spider. 720 I think the weak point was the sound. they fixed that in the 765 but 675 to me sounds more visceral and raw.

In the end- both amazing wonderful cars, I would say long terms keepers for me most likely and Im enjoying tremendously my Mclaren journey. It helps to have a good dealership and team. They have been very supportive. Lets see where this journey takes me.

Congratulations! A great combination :) Short of P1 and MSO HS you arguably have the best two models they've done in modern times. I too have a scooped 675, and if I were to add another Mac it would be the spider version of 765.

I love the so-called P1 seats and prefer them over the Senna seats. Interesting to read your comparison comments between the models. Enjoy
The P1 seats I find super narrow in the hips. I wonder if there is a way to take some padding out in the interim while I find a more permanent, economical solution. dont feel like dropping another 10-25k on just seats. I can live with the P1 seats if I have to. Not the end of the world.

If you do decide to switch to Senna seats, be careful with the choice. Dalton said mine are the narrow chassis, I was previously unaware that the chassis itself came in two sizes, but they are extremely narrow in the hip area, they fit me perfectly but a couple of people who've tried them were unable to sit all the way down. It's not the pads either, they have the thin pads. I'm probably going to get some softer side pads made for the passenger seat.
I own a 765 spider with Senna seats and am well aware of the difference between the Touring and Regular sized Senna seats.

Couple more thoughts after some more driving today:
1- the doors open wider than the 720/765. You need more space. I will need to rethink parking.
2- Turning radius sucks. I mean its terrible. I really need to keep that in mind when parking or doing U turns. Likely that u turn might turn into a 3 point turn

So, if the Taycan is the daily and you're offloading that soon, what will replace it?
I have a friend who swears by that car (he came from a G-wagon), and it's got me pondering the option...

Nice duo BTW, dream set-up!
See my initial post. Im just done with Porsche. Just cant stand the brand and its ethos right now. My Taycan has been in the shop for close to 3 weeks cause it died in a parking lot. They had it for 2 weeks for a software update about 6 weeks ago. The brand has lost its luster for me significantly. Have sold my GT3 recenlty- Taycan is next to go.

What Im considering is just a daily beater for the next 15 months or so while our house construction continues. Not sure what. Just something cheap that I can park outside cause right now I only have a 2 car garage till the new house is done.

I can measure my P1 seats in my 675 and we can compare. I have the largest size. if you have the smaller size, maybe you can find a used set.
A little more than 14 inches across. Getting in and about is a pain- to be expected. But once seated it’s just tight in the hips. I’m getting used to it but I will never spec these seats again.

I have p1 touring seats and had p1 touring seats in 675.

The 675 touring seats were so much tighter at the hips. I was convinced that they had made a mistake on the 675 and that they sent me the small type seats . I never pursued it because the tightness did its job on track (didn’t need a harness to keep me in my place but they were for sure uncomfortable for the first few minutes of every drive .
Yup. Its the hips where its a pain in the ass. Literally.

Great 2 cars! I'm glad I was at the dealer to see you pick it up. The smile on your face couldn't be removed for anything! That orange 765 spider was definitely calling to me. However, they were quite proud of it at MSRP + $250K. I liked it, but not THAT much!

If something happens and it comes home, you know those comfort seats are yours, as the P1 seats fit me like a glove. What would make things easier for me is that I still love my Track Pack. Hopefully we'll see you Wednesday!
I’ll be there wed for sure. They asked me to bring my spider. All Elvas inside (with a few surprises) and 765 lts out front.

BTW- make an offer on the orange spider. It’s on consignment. you Never know….would suit you so well!!

Funny. I really thought you were talking about Ferrari because here in Florida that describes them perfectly. No more Ferrari's for me!!
Ferrari for the most part has been good to me. Porsche- worst car culture ever.

I find it amusing that you didn't even mention/consider Lamborghini in your initial post of supercar brands. This confirms my experience that the typical Lamborghini buyer and the typical McLaren buyer are two entirely differently individual types.
I don’t mention Lamborghini cause I can’t fit. Lambos are made for 6 foot and smaller individuals. Being 6’4” I have not had any success in being comfortable. Would love to own a lambo but no chance.

Just some additional observations. This car looks really good. When the 720 first came out, I was not a fan of the headlights. Over time the shape, the look has grown on me and its one of the most exotic beautiful cars.

The more I stare at the 675 with the roof scoop, man Im in instant love with the car. This will be a timeless car. Its 7 years old but looks like it should be a current model. This thing is really growing on me.

Same here. I'm also 6’4” and won't fit in any Lambos. Ferrari the same. Tried to sit in the SF90 and even with bucket seat on lowest position my head wouldn't fit.
Just sat in a P1 today and was amazed how even in 2012 they managed to give so much clearance over the head.
I had not issues with Ferrari (owned a 488 and Pista) but 296 was tight for me. Need to try that again. Have no interest in SF90 have not driven.

Porsche produce great engineered cars with great quality. And when it occasionally does go wrong, Porsche always stand behind their products. I have seen cars that were out of warranty for many years and had their engine replaced under goodwill. Recently there was a Carrera GT that had a pitted crankshaft and Porsche replaced the crankshaft no questions asked for free on a 18 years old model. This particular Carrera GT never had an engine out service due to its low miles, so the new owner who bought it couldn't have known it had a pitted crankshaft. No arguments or fightback from Porsche. And parts arrive fast on air freight if needed to be.

Next time when a part breaks on your 765LT, see how easy it is to have Mclaren NA replace those things for you under warranty. Any Mclaren owners (including myself) who have dealt with Mclaren on warranty will know what I'm talking about.

I love my Porsches. It's the gift that keeps on giving! ;)

Mike, my Taycan may be an aberration. Its not why I cant stand the brand. They are great drivers cars. Im sure they are super reliable as well. I just am done with the brand for various reasons. Would be happy to own their more vintage cars. their dealer network is crap for the most part.

That's because you didn't do the secret Porsche handshake
Thats precisely the point Mike. I dont want to do a secret handshake. I want to not have to play games or any of that nonsense. I just ant to be able to buy a car that is available. If its not available, then so be it. But these ADM games, nonsense limited edition cars that are the same- its not for me. They can make some great cars but others can enjoy them. Im personally not a fan. Apparently Chris Harris- the biggest Porsche Homer is also done.

By no means am I saying Mclaren reliability or service is perfect. Its not. We all know this. After 3 Mclarens, I know the warts that exist. But I much prefer the Mclaren community and experience over the Porsche community and experience. YMMV.
