No they just didn't apply to you! If you are an heir then they do. The I.R.S. thinks you are Y.I.S. young irresponsible & stupid. Then you go & do the really stupid things. Get a good job, settle down, buy a 4 door car and property. The IRS is like a shark smelling blood for the first time!
Definitely not an heir to anything, lol… I was under working age when living outside the US, so they didn’t matter to me.

As we all know, tax laws in the US were written for the wealthy to stay wealthy really. An $18k/month lease payment on a Senna that gets written off at tax time is laughable unless it is used for a race/HPDE school.
What does this mean? The tax code is actually written for the poor! As a percentage in 2021 the highest number of people ever did NOT owe any federal income tax. Something like 54% of tax returns owed nothing. How does that even help the country or the wealthy? It actually places MORE of a burden on the wealthy.

70% of the US economy is consumer spending...the wealthy spend more as well. McLarens aren’t cheap etc.

If you’re married you can pass on up to $24m of your estate, tax free...that represents OVER 99% of people. Nearly everyone. So ‘you’ specifically can pass on your wealth entirely tax FREE. How is that keeping you and your family from being wealthy or staying wealthy?

The top 1% pays 35-40% of all taxes in the US. The top 10% pays 70% of all taxes in this country. Half the country pays 97% of all taxes. So forgive me if I don’t think it’s all about the rich hoarding their money and the tax system being written ‘for them.’

How you make your money matters as well. W2 vs. 1099 or K1 etc...

I’ll pay WAY more into Social Security than I’ll ever get out of it...It’s a legalized ponzi scheme. Is that a benefit to the wealthy too? Or do they NEED the wealthy to pay for the poor! No I’m not crying for the wealthy...they do just fine, but don’t make excuses for other people either. The US tax code is VERY VERY generous to low and middle income families. Don’t wanna hear about Warren Buffets secretary. That’s the exception not the rule. Stop watching TV.

You’ve commented that you’re an electrician...which is a great trade btw. I come from a heavy Union family. Grandpop a plumber, no college. Dad was a crane operator no college. Uncle plumber, no college. Other Uncle HVAC, no college. Brother and brother in law both carpenters, also no college. EVERYONE one of them eventually opened their own business and have done very well for themselves. Life is about choices. Good and bad and whether or not we learn from them or not. But this ‘pay your fair share’ is just political bs. News outlets pick the exception to the rules to write their articles on. Most wealthy people pay a shit load in taxes...YES as a percentage too. Many donate lots to charity as well. The 1000 billionaires in this country are not indicative of the ‘average’ wealthy person.

$18k a month lease...For everyone one of those I’d bet there are literally 1000’s of middle income/lower income people abusing the tax system. Example: have multiple babies PURPOSELY out of wedlock and then get married. I know 4 people who have done this. The state paid for the babies but Who really paid for those babies? Wealthy peoples taxes. You call it strategic planning the same way the $18k a month lease person does. I know 5 people currently still not married but living together for 5-15 years each so ‘she’ can collect monthly support payments from the state. Legal? You decide. But who pays for it? The 54% of people who owed nothing on their taxes last year? Nope. Let’s just say the wealthy give more to society than they take by a large margin...Ask Buffet, Gates, Zuckerberg, Oprah and others why all their money is going into charitable foundations...Cause they don’t trust the govt with it and feel they can do more good with it themselves.

Sorry for the rant...sometimes things just go off track...

The rich pay most of the tax because the wealth gap is now so large that a large percentage of the population don't have sufficient income to be able to contribute substantially to government income.

There is more opportunity today than at any point in history. In your opinion what’s holding people back? The wealth gap is holding them back from success? Maybe the education system sucks on purpose and they don’t want people to properly understand money and people make poor choices....BUT...30 years ago they didn’t have Google either.

How does a secretary or janitor die with $10m? Good choices. How did most of my family go from ‘normal’ Union workers to all owning their own businesses? Good choices. How come the wealth gap didn’t stop them or hold them back?

‘Most’ people’s lives are highly dependent on good and bad choices. Like buying a $1200 iPhone and air jordans in HS or college. Dumb. Choices. A new car at 25. Dumb. No...not everyone will become Jeff Bezos...but there is also LOTS of opportunity for those who work hard and are creative. If you want a 9-5 ‘worker bee job’ then don’t complain about he rich or the wealth gap. Union crane operators in PA/NJ make $100k-$150k a year working 8 hours a day. Many don’t want to work more than that...ask me how I know. Is that a wealth gap problem or a motivation problem? Choices.

No...that’s not lacking in compassion...3.3B people live on $5 a day. So privilege is something most westerners are born with. So what’s their excuse for not doing better with the bright star they were born under? Choices.

@aorta I’m a union plumber and pipe welder, not an electrician. I make a good living, enough to where my wife and kids want for nothing and I am able to completely support my elderly mother. Will I ever be a millionaire? No probably not. Will I ever own a McLaren? At this point it seems the answer is no probably not as well. I do not begrudge the rich at all, and I understand all about choices and how they affect lives. I made my choices, and now I have to live with them and I do the best I can every day for those I love.

However, I’m not gonna get into another political argument here because the last one was bad enough, but if you really think that the poor are the tax burden you are delusional, and that is all I’m gonna say about that. I have neither the time nor the desire to debate this with you.

Edit: reading into your post a little more, it seems that you feel I specifically am either gaming the tax system, or accusing it of holding me back personally (your liberal use of the term “you” indicating me personally since it was my post you quoted) when I never said anything of the sort, and I paid a shitload of taxes not just last year, but every year prior. So if you have something personal to say to me, or accuse me of, take it to a private message so we don’t clutter this thread any further.

My bad on the Electrican comment.

No, nothing personal at all and I think you mis-interpreted my post.

My point was simple...to say the tax system is setup/rigged for the wealthy is just not true. It’s hard to even argue that point when 54% of tax filers paid ZERO federal income tax.

This country/gov’t has a spending problem and entitlement program problem. 70% of gov’t spending is SS, Medicaid/Medicare and military. We do not have a tax revenue problem. It’s all about spending. Why is the Gov’t responsible for saving for your or my retirement? Education is a joke in this country. People are woefully unprepared for life when they graduate...but that doesn’t serve the narrative. Let’s keep’em dumb and making bad choices.

To the political point...they are ALL part of the problem. But the biggest problem we have is the PEOPLE, because they simply don’t understand just how much power/influence they wield. We the people allow them to do this to us. Which is why the media and lobbyists are SO important to gov’t agenda for BOTH parties. The people are being played but the average person has no idea what is happening right in front of their nose. Everything you hear/read is heavily massaged and rarely ever do we get the full truth on anything.

With that...I’ll move on...Cause I’m sure this will go nowhere good...No ill will intended...

There's no accountability in this country. It's always someone eles'e fault why things didn't go their way..

4500x36 = 162k + 25k = 187k. I think 9k is actually reduced from the 25k initial payment, security deposit and advance payment. So just under 180k to pay off 90k of the car and drive 7500 miles. Pretty nutty rapage. Definitely withheld the lube.
