Resurrecting a 4 yr old tread.....
Anyone actually running a “built” engine yet?
I am aware of XPRD’s (original) product development as well as Renaissance Speed‘s engine package offerings, however is anyone actually running a “built” engine.
Are any of these “upgraded” parts available without being required to purchase a complete engine package?
Wow, it is hard to believe it has been 5 years since I first posted on this thread (
post #6). So much has happened in that time, including us becoming a sponsor. However, since this is not our thread, we want to be respectful to the original poster, while being responsive to your query since you mentioned us by name...
To answer your question on whether anyone is running a Renaissance Speed built McLaren engine yet, it is “yes”. I am sure you have seen our volcano red 12C shop car break numerous records over the last 3 years on this forum. It was built back in 2018 with the goal of 1,000 rwhp and reached its power target about 2 years ago. We were the first McLaren to crack over 1,000 hp to the wheels:
The same engine has done numerous pulls, all without skipping a beat. Several years after being built, it is still winning awards at race events. As seen by this Shift Sector event a few months ago on Syvecs, where we beat out many higher HP cars (we were middle of the pack) and ended up in the semi-finals with a 2500 HP Viper:
Given the success of our first generation of built engines, we decided to open this up for others to buy a few months ago and improve on it as Gen 2 with twice the horsepower. To this point, we just released our
ABSOLUTE - McLaren Stroker 4.2L Billet Crankshaft and
ABSOLUTE - McLaren Titanium Connecting Rods, which can be found in our
ABSOLUTE – McLaren Built Engine (Blueprinted Shortblock) V2. We have three concurrent high-power engine builds in process, so more data will be headed inbound soon on the forums...
Moreover, it is always advisable to buy and have your parts installed by the same supplier/shop. Why? To avoid finger-pointing in the event of a failure. Unfortunately, this happens the majority of the time, where the parts supplier blames the installer and the installer blames the parts. The end state is a confused customer and two companies with tarnished reputations. The only way to avoid this is to have one single supplier/shop responsible for both. This is better for the parts supplier/installer and the end customer. Hence, why we only offer fully assembled, blueprinted, short blocks and
built cylinder heads.
To provide a better understanding of the work involved in our blueprinting process, this the spec sheet that we fill out for every engine build which is similar to how Ricardo originally built and approved your OE short block:
It is exciting to see how far the scene has come in the years since this thread was started. A 1,000 rwhp was a dream back then, but now is easily reached with the right parts. We are proud to be part of this continually evolving community and those who also want to push the envelope and win at the highest level of street car competition.
