Looking to buy a GT

Now that prices are stabilising, I'm considering a pre-owned 2020-21 GT. I've been a fan of McLaren since I first drove a 650S a few years ago. I've driven a few 570S models but really like the looks and performance of the GT. My biggest hold back is I have no McLaren service near me. The closest dealer is 6 hours away. The sole independent shop that is nearby that works on exotics won't touch a Mac.

My concerns are reliability and things I need to look for. I would be buying from an authorised McLaren dealer and most likely adding warranty if it's a certified car. I've been trying to find a decent long-term review online but most of the reviews are with a new car. I would like to hear from owners an honest assessment of how their ownership has been. I would probably put about 2K miles per year on it. Thanks for any and all input.

These have not been around as long and they weren't the most popular, so I'm sure info is limited. My thought is just keep up with annual service (maybe up to $2K a year, increasing year over year), ensure a good PPI is done, mainly follow standard protocol that's followed for older models like 570 or 720 and you should be good. However, if it's not feasible to follow protocol due to distance to nearest dealer or service center, I'd give it a second thought entirely. I personally haven't run into any issues, she's run beautifully over the almost 2 years of ownership (GT is great for long distance trips, and I've taken mine everywhere, longest trip being about 400 miles each way), but I also have a dealer close by if anything were to happen.

There are a few McLaren-certified techs that regularly travel around the US and Canada servicing customers that either don’t have dealers near them or don’t want to use the dealers.

Thanks for your inputs. I really want a McLaren but hear so much negativity towards these cars that it has me concerned. Granted one should not believe everything they hear and I don't normally but some of the sources are impartial and trustworthy. I came here hoping to find several like Incubi421 who have owned one long term to chime in with their impression. The GT fits nicely between the 570S and 720S for my usage and I like the overall design of the car. I had a not so pleasant experience with a pre-owned Ferrari F430 that I do not wish to repeat.

I collected my GT yesterday and initial thoughts are its really good! build quality is spot on, power delivery exceptional and the steering is first rate. practicality wise, it really is better than you'd probably expect it to be....i heard issues around the practicality of load space, but come on, who buys this type of car to lug stuff around in, you can easily get overnight bags in and the likes, that is enough surely.

My only 2 issues is with the Sat Nav screen and this strange high-pitch intermittent whining noise form the middle dash area.

The nav is showing a message on the screen that states in bold letters EVALUATION. this then stops live tracking of your movements when navigating anywhere, but im sure this is a simple fix and my local dealer is all over it for me (who i bought it from).

The high pitch sound, is odd, no idea what it is but im not so bothered about that!

Go buy the car, enjoy it and you will not be disappointed.

I have a 22 GT with 39.5K miles on it after just under 2 years. It has been pretty much flawless. No strange sounds or issues with QC. I had one leaking driver side rear shock but I'm convinced this happened on one of my longer road trips (3500 miles) where we hit some incredibly rough freeway stretches and some major potholes at speed I couldn't avoid. Replaced under warranty.

'm getting ready to drive the entire West Coast from SoCal to Seattle and back in a few weeks. I worry more about a puncture than the GT breaking down. It just loves to run...
