Things have been going well financially the last few years, and I'm ready to finally buy my first McLaren. My favorite is the 765LT, I think it's the best car on the market below the hypercar tier, and I'd love to own one.
The "problem" is that I don't want to make any compromises that will bother me every time I look at the car or sit inside it. Since the car is discontinued, I'll have to buy used, which means I won't be able to tailor the car to my preferences. I found a very nice used 765LT Coupe for USD $400k that's 90% my spec, but it doesn't have the exterior carbon packages 2 and 3, those parts are finished in Dark Palladium (package 2) and gloss black (package 3) instead. Other than that, the car is perfect, both in exterior and interior trim. I really like the look of the visible carbon trim and I'd want as much of it as possible. Dark Palladium is a bit confusing, it looks too grey-ish for my liking in most photos. The car also has black calipers instead of the orange ones I'd prefer, but that's a minor detail.
There's also the alternative of buying a brand new 750S, and configuring it exactly to my liking with some additional MSO touches. This would likely end up more expensive than the used 765, and I'm not really sure it's worth it considering all the comparisons of the two cars I've read state that the 765 is both better performing and more fun to drive (and in my opinion it looks quite a bit better).
Which one is the best choice? I don't care about depreciation/resale because I'm planning to keep the car for years and drive it a lot both on road and track. Is the difference between the 750 and the 765 large enough to justify buying it used and making a compromise on my ideal spec? I appreciate the feedback. Thanks in advance!
