I was told Diagcode is 1910 euros shipped to the US (so about $2100) and then the annual subscription is 400 euros ($440ish). You lose the ability to reset service and do some other stuff if you don't renew. That's for the single vin.

For the record, I contacted Diagcode and found that several functions STOP WORKING if the yearly update is not paid! The most important being the Service Reset function! How F'ed up is that!

In my travels when exploring this I also ran across this one:
But never got into the nuts and bolts of it...

I could never understand Diagcode. They have the opportunity to OWN the Mac market - but price their product in a manner that is not attractive. Instead of having 100 customers, they could have 10,000 customers......
I agree. A member was trying to sell one. They told me 1600 to add a vin! I'd happily pay 2k for one if I didn't have to renew some BS license each year to retain full functionality, even if it was just single vin. Sell it with the car and the new owner would want it anyway, especially since many of us do our own work. Or someone with lots of cash to burn buy the unlimited one and rent it to members to use!

I got an email from them today verifying the price (1850 euro) and subscription (400 euro) and that without continuing to pay the subscription the device still works for some things, but not the most important things such as service reset. I sent them an email back:

"Thanks for your detailed information. I think you are missing the market for the single VIN devices. We’re just owners who the most important function is to reset the service interval. We don’t really need subscriptions, and for you to turn off some of the most important functionality unless we pay for a subscription is really a mistake, I think. I think you could have five times the number of buyers for the personal device if you just made it work forever for the $2200, no subscription required. Then maybe we’d pay once in awhile for new future features if they were significant upgrades or we wanted to change the VIN because we bought a new McLaren."

Maybe some of you could email them with essentially the same message?

Based on a one time purchase of $2,200 (or less), I would definitely purchase. And like you, one of the most important features for 'me' is the service reset capabilities for a single VIN. Alternatively, I would consider a small subscription each year - say $500.00 to get into the device, and 100.00 per year for the sub.

I just sent them a note too. If they were like $1900, and the VIN it is locked to retained all the functions forever, we'd all buy one.

Trying to chat with these guys now. I'll report back. Maybe we can get a group buy going. I'm not worried about programming keys (knock on wood) but do want to be able to diagnose issues and reset the service light. I don't care if it's VIN locked, I don't have a stable of McLaren's...yet?

single vin is useless. most of us change cars too often to make it worthwhile or helping a non mechanically inclined friend is always a good thing, and some have more than 1 mac.
would pay $2k+ and small yearly ($100 to 200) sub to keep it going but above that, dealer is not much more expensive for a simple maintenance light reset.
Autel gets us there most of the way but have read on here that autel requires a yearly sub. ? nothing on their site about this that i could find.

Yeah, the VW tool comes with 10 VINs, which would be fine for most I think.

People have complained about their prices for years. They have another thread. They don't seem interested in budging. The people with it seem happy with the product though. I considered it and it's just too much to even consider. Maybe if I ever stop warranty and servicing at the dealer.

Yeah, that's where I am too. At the current price, it only makes sense if you're running without a warranty.

not to me its not useless. If I can save $ over dealer service, and troubleshoot issues myself as they pop up it is worth it. The $500/year to keep the service reset etc. live is what bugs me. The dealer will reset for less than that.

Also just sent Autel support an email asking which tool is best for a 12C to do what I need done, and if there's a mandatory annual fee to retain functions for an 11 year old car. We will see.

Pricing has been bantered about with them previoulsy and they displayed a level of arrogance that is not justified based on the number of users they have. Potentially good product, poor business people. Own the marketplace (5000+ customers) vs. 10 or 20 customers. No brainer right?. Eventually someone else will come out with something better and steal the market. Happens all the time....

what id be most interested in is an 'offline version' version of the MDS + instructions on whats needed to run it / what cable is needed to communicate with the car. Those that have this information are hoarding to themselves or reselling at an astronomical rate sadly. I have a few Lexus / Toyota vehicles in the family and was able to source an OBD compatible cable + 'offline version' of Techstream (Toyota / Lexus equivalent to MDS) off ebay and it has tremendously helped with having the vehicles serviced / programmed / updated at home.

So you mean you want a pirated version? As a software entrepreneur I abhor this. I had an earlier company that was basically destroyed by half the people not buying my useful softare but stealing it.

Selling a "used" version that was originally bought is fine. Buying an "aftermarket" version that was developed independently is fine. But please don't steal software, just because you can't afford it.
