Are there any tall guys out there who can tell me which car would fit a tall guy like me better? I would prefer a spider but if I do not fit comfortably, I'll go for the coupe. Most people think headroom is the only issue but ifor me the field of vision is also a concern. In some cars the roll bar sits right across my line of sight so I end up slouching and/or craning my neck so I can see all of the road. I imagine electric seats take out some headroom and that race seats give the most head head room but comfort is important for me so should I go for the standard non electric seats in a coupe? Will this work for me? Obviously I am going to have to try before I buy but most dealers only seem to carrry cars with electric seats.

Paul, it depends on how you like to sit. I'm 6'3"ish and I sit more like in F1. Where I don't push the seat all the way back, but instead tilt the seat back so my legs have some bend, but then the back of the seat tilts back. It leaves me with enough room for a helmet. At least 2", maybe more, of headroom. This is in a coupe.

Basically, best thing to do is go sit in a few and play with the adjustments to see what is comfy for you.

But, you'll lose about 1" of headroom with the convertible. The tallest seats are the electric seats (which I have). The manual seats probably give you at least 1".

So, I'd be shocked if you wouldn't fit into a coupe with manual seats, but honestly, there is a decent chance you'd fit into a spider with even electric seats, just depending on how much tilt you like.

Best advice, go give it a try with the different seats.

Thanks everyone. Clarkson never looks comfortable and he does not have to be comfortable because he is driving 'loaners' so will be handing them back. My local dealer has spiders and coupes with electric seats. If these do not work I'll have to keep an eye out for a local car with manual seats and give it a try. No way am I going to spec my own car without being sure I fit first!

I was reading another thread on this forum a few days ago and someone did mention they were also 6'5" but I cannot remember who it was.

Give the electrics a try. Do this. Push the seat back as far as it will go and get in. The back should get pretty straight. Lean the back so that the seat bottom scoots forward automatically about 3 or 4 times. At that point, sink the seat back and lift the seat front up in angle to the max.

That will introduce an angle at you knees (F1 style) that I find to be one of the most comfortable seating positions ever. But it will have also leaned your seat back enough to be, again F1 style, laying back a bit. The tilt angle of the bottom of the seat lets you put the seat in quite a bit further than I was used to in other cars. You adjust the steering wheel then to introduce just the right amount of bend in your elbows. The top of the steering wheel should just nick the 6olcock spot on the tack and cut off the number a bit.

As always, YMMV, but I would not be surprised if you do fit in even then spider and quite expect you should fit no problem in the coupe even with the electric seat.
