One thing about ring times while it is a measurement of a cars performance however equally as important is drivers ability. With each car being driven by drivers all over the spectrum it's really not a good measurement. Gm should have hired the same driver that ran the amg one. That would have at least made it a more accurate comparison

That wouldn't work either because the AMG driver was probably very familiar with the car, sticking them in a Corvette they'd be unlikely to be faster than a GM development driver imo, unless their name is Max.

When these manufacturers go to the ring to set a time they are usually there for weeks. A top shelf driver has the ability to adapt to most any car over a few days. As long as they were there for weeks I am confident he could run the zr1 at the limit as he did with the amg. If he only had a few hours to adapt then I would agree

Like most, I was a bit disappointed with the ZR1 ring time…BUT…They did this in the summer, which was odd, cause the fall/spring is usually the best time for great laps. Still a solid lap but probably some left on the table. Also…Porsche ring times NEVER translate to other tracks, especially American tracks. It has always been this way. I’d be willing to bet the ZR1 stomps on the GT3RS by multiple seconds on much shorter US tracks but it barely beats it at the ring…Same for the GT2RS vs McLarens on the ring vs US tracks. So I take ring laps with a grain of salt. Most folks in the world will never drive the ring..so their home tracks are a far better barometer. AND…few manufacturers put the amount of time and money that Porsche does at the ring. GM spent two days there for these attempts and probably spent a grip load of money doing it. It’s not easy or cheap to go back on a whim…and…to what end? Even if they set a crazy time…the cars are sold out for the first 1-2 years…juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Useless side note…While I’ve driven the ring and it’s cool, SPA was WAY more fun and if given the choice I’d take SPA over the ring any day. I think it’s the best track in the world.

I've been waiting anxiously for McLaren to do Spa again. It's top of my list of tracks I want to drive.
