Anyone experienced the windscreen seals detaching like this? I suspect it is a hot weather issue as the adhesive strips become "tacky" and no longer stick firmly. The GG car is mine, the VO a demonstrator.

I've had both passenger and driver side replaced and looks like it's going back for attention again. :(

Jerry, it must be UK spec adhesive and very waterproof with little need for temperature movement!

I've now been told that it's a known problem and they are working on a fix! It's not the first time I've heard that and surely the fix is easy ... find a less temperature sensitive adhesive?

I have a horrible feeling that I shall be commenting more and more on hot weather related issues. I could be completely wrong, but I get the impression that most manufacturers do the hot weather testing with the pre- production prototypes which are a.) covered in various types of disguise, b.) not fitted with the various options the average buyer wants. So the hot weather testing proves the cooling system will work, the air con has capacity etc etc but the various bits of trim are never exposed to direct sunlight and temperature extremes and problems are exposed only after the early customers drive away and start exposing the cars to such conditions? I had an early 997 Turbo which had various pieces of interior trim replaced ( some as much as 6 times in 2 years) due to them detaching due to the glue becoming tacky during extreme temperatures ... at one point Porsche even tried to claim it was not really their fault as it "was hot outside". It took a great deal of self control to politely remind them they had sold me a Gulf spec car and they should have known it was hot outside. At least McLaren have not (yet) tried such an excuse!

Mine is a few days old and it has the same problem in sunny California. It has to be the UK boys not expecting 100 degree weather. It just seems like the double sided tape that holds it together should be replaced once in a while and that should aleviate the problem.

Ron would not condone that.........come on it needs to stand the test of time irrespective of climate especially as California is the second biggest economy behind Moscow!

Yup, it's double sided tape. Had mine stuck down again last week. I'm absolutely certain it'll detach again. It'll be 45-50 deg C here in a few weeks ... I'm expecting every single plastic or rubber seal to have detached before summer is over.

It's a good job the car is such good fun otherwise these issues would have me seriously thinking about a trade in.

Yep you are right, we have 2 Mac dealers here only about 40 miles apart. Still greater Los Angeles area. I'm sure there are other dealers in Northern California as well, so Moscow's got nothing on us :)

Let me know if you find a solution that is better then buying more double-sided tape. Until then, I'll keep going to the local hardware store. The car is definitely worth it, but I'm not sure I'll say that a year from now after there are 10 different things that I have to fix or touch up. For now, lets enjoy it.

I had my car in this past week for a few minor items of which the winsdcreen trim was detached on one side...The car was delivered back to me and all seemed well..I took a spirited drive down our turnpike and sh*t..I thought something was caught under the car or was dragging ..just had no idea. Good news it was the windscreen trim slapping against the windshield on both sides...It detached at about 90MPH and it was a crazy loud sound,,,after I identified it I actually felt a bit foolish as I really was convinced something catastrophic was happening..At any rate..I guess it is back to the dealer although I dont think the spec on the tape being used can meet the high temps and humidity of S Florida...Hoping Mac comes up with an alternative product /fix...

Me too. Happened rather spectacularly at the 'Ring on the main straight. I had about a foot flapping away. Fixed thanks to handy roll of gaffer tape I happened to have in the boot. Went back to dealer for attention, but suspect it won't be long before it starts peeling again.

Same here. 4000km driven, right side came off this evening driving to Frankfurt. At 220kph. I thought something broke in the engine at first. Scary. Good thing I read this here yesterday, or else I would have never found the issue and would have likely pulled over and stopped the car.

Mine is loose too, and it was originally a Florida car. I've never heard it slapping though. Sounds like an easy fix, something you could even do yourself. If the double sided tape they use keeps coming up, you could probably find something stronger to use at your local hardware store.

I think the problem is that they have to be able to remove the seal if there is a window issue, but the rape they use today simply degrades with heavy airflow. Especially when it comes off a little bit it will tear off about a foot or so easily.

Mine has come loose at 10,000 miles at the top edge. Seems to cover the screen edge .
