Where is IRIS

As we all know, or were told, the delivery delays were down to IRIS.

Not heard a thing on these forums or elsewhere if this is now sorted and when deliveries will start.

Anyone else any the wiser?

Perhaps you boys going to Manchester this evening can get an update?

Also, when will the first customer delivery be and do the Manchester cars have working IRIS?

I'll certainly ask the question tonight although it wouldn't affect me anyhow as my order wouldn't arrive until spring 2012.

Cheers, Ross.
Latest I've heard is 1st deliveries mid-late July, but won't have functioning satnav

Midlands gets it's demos this week (currently on load to Manchester for their opening)
i am the 4th on the waiting list in France

i hope for September but, it will be hard

no demo car yet...

told today that my car is expected to be delivered to the dealer w/e 7th August, that's only one week later than originally expected which is good news :)
I was at the Manchester launch tonight and managed to talk to Greg Levine who is Global Sales & Marketing Director for McLaren Automotive

http://media.mclarenautomotive.com/release/67/

He told me that the radio and media player part of Iris is working and it was on the Manchester car. The Satnav and other functions are not yet working and therefore they have decided to include IRIS for free on early cars until all the functionality is available. These cars will be upgraded when the other functions are available.

I also asked about the 458 comparison tests but I'll post those comments on the appropriate thread!

Does that mean car's will be £5k cheaper initially?

me too! :)
Thanks for your feedback and interesting to note that the real part/point of IRIS still not working and ages away from being fixed.

Considering all of the other R & D that the car has undergone over the last two years, surprised that such an apparently innocuous feature is holding everything up?

Is IRIS more than it makes out to be (probably not given the £5100 option/essential/obligatory component that it is) and will it be the Achilles heel?

My deliver wasn’t originally until Q4, but probably like me, you are getting embarrassed every time someone asks when you will be getting your car.

The McLaren Birmingham demonstrator has been up and running for some time now and even seven weeks ago it has covered over 5000 miles in ongoing pre-production tests!

Doesn’t look at the moment that any actual “real” customer/dealer cars have been produced.

Hope this is not observed as a criticism, as I want McLaren to succeed as much as most posters.

Just taking stock of exactly where we are at and that delivery appears about three months behind the originally planned schedule.

At B'ham luanch next Tuesday and will push for more.

I understand that the Manchester Orange car is production spec. They had a drama to get it there for the launch - it only arrived in the last couple of days and its not been PDI'd yet. I saw it on the line in Woking in April when it was 2/3 finished so think they have recently decided to stop waiting for full IRIS and get them out of the door.

It should be on the road in the next week - will be getting a road test soon :)
Another point, the powertrain and handling knobs are now metal, but still look plastic,I spoke to Christian about this and he told me to email him as he agrees,if he gets enough complaints he said you never know? we want to keep our customers happy
Also a good point is car 1 will be the same as car 5000,this is one of the ways they can help with keeping up the value of the car, as there will be no mid term facelift. But possibly more options to add if customers demand it,ie retro fit buttons!!
Very enjoyable evening in Knutsford last night - unfortunately we had to leave a bit earlier because of the babysitter.

The car looked mint and very striking in that plain Orange, but I have to say that there were a few points where panel fit isn't quite what it ought to be ie. perfect. I imagine that will improve in time.

The IRIS system in its current state seemed hopeless when I played with it, but apparently the first few owners will get this free and will get an update to fix it later - not very McLaren but I guess they want to avoid any more delays now.

Happy to say that seeing it in the flesh is definitely helping my cause with the wife - she was really quite excited by it, I think she's forgotten the Tiff/Plato horror show now.

I'm very lucky that I live 2 mins walk from the place. I'm definitely more inclined to think that the good road tests I've seen will far better represent how the car will be and will be viewed in a couple of years rather than the Fifth Gear show.

The cockpit is a very dark place though - I'm surprised there are no options for a lighter shade of 'ceiling' covering in there.

Cheers, Ross.
