What wrong with Canadian pricing?

I went through ALOT of threads in the forum and have noticed that a lot of people have been able to get 650s for around 100k of the asking price. In addition it seems like the 2016 models also have a lot 2015 options as standards.

What I do not understand is what is up with the prices in Canada, it doesnt seem like there is any discount, and NEW 650s are at the same price point of used (5%)

2016 with 500kms: $350,000

2015 with 150kms: $343,000

2015 with 11,000kms :$329,000 (I like this spec)

I must be crazy to buy at these prices right? The issue is that a 12c, is also priced really high, e.g., $270,000.

If I remember right, all the dealer locations in Canada are owned by the same parent company (Pfaff?). If so that means they would have likely been much more able to control supply than in the US where there are many dealers owned by many different people.

The reason prices in the US are what they are is that there are too many cars relative to the demand for them. If that problem doesn't exist in Canada then they don't need to discount to move cars.

Their pricing is a direct reflection of the market they are allowed to sell to. As has been said, its all one group. When you are the only horse in the race, you dont really have to try that hard to win.

I was asking about this as well, they are pretty upfront with why they price how they do.

From what I hear they do really make a lot of effort to take care of their clients. Ive been happy so far, but I havent had that much interaction with them as of yet.

Canada isnt exactly the land of competition, If you get into something early, there is a pretty big chance you will hold that spot for a long long time.

I wish the markets were like the USA, It would make SO many thing more competitive, not just car related stuff.

Pfaff has the exclusive rights to McLaren for all of Canada, so the 3 dealers are either Pfaff or Joint ventures. So they can control the prices. When I purchased my car, the negotiation was "do you want it or not" Price was fixed "Not negotiable"

To be honest, their pricing is fair. They could be marking up the prices if they wanted too. They do offer service well beyond what dealers do in the USA. As an example I live 700 km away from the Toronto dealership. They send a technician to my home to do all the service at the same rate they charge at the dealership.

I have no complaints, we do pay more to buy, but on the other hand we do maintain our resale price better than the USA.

My experience with Pfaff has always been first class . They have always been upfront and honest and do what they say they will do. I was an early adopter and had some fear as only one dealer for the entire country but Pfaff has been excellent to date.

First of all, Pfaff McLaren is a superb dealer. In terms of customer service, by far the best I have dealt with. I even service some of my other cars, there, because the techs are excellent and trustworthy. Great bunch of car guys that are also pleasant to hang around and talk to.

Now, Leviathan, you and I have traded PMs, but I'm still not quite sure why you are so perplexed.

There are 2 MP4-12C spiders on the trader right now at 240-250K, which means you can probably get one for 225 if you know how to negotiate. That's a car that has lost over 100,000 in less than 3 years, so I'm not sure what else you want.

As I explained, Canada is a puny market for exotics. Yes, Pfaff is the only dealer, but that is because the client base can only support one dealer. Again, what helps them dictate pricing somewhat right now, is that the Canadian dollar is very weak, so buyers cannot easily import a McLaren from the U.S. at even greater discounts. But if you think they are buying MP4s for 250K, you are way off-base. As I said, call up any dealer (not just Pfaff) in Canada and tell them you have an MP4-12C coupe or spider to sell, then see what you can get for it.

Lastly, and again, this is Spring season after a Canadian winter, aka the worst possible time of year to shop for a convertible exotic (any brand). The dealers have set their hopeful prices and are committed to the next 2 months, at least, to see if they can snag a Spring Fever customer who will pay asking, or very close to it. Almost every exotic car listed in Canada has been sitting literally for months, already. If they don't sell in April or May, you'll have an easier time negotiating. Even more so if the CAD continues to rebound.
