EDIT: Post removed, after reading the source material more thoroughly!
Almost! It is a bit watered down compared to the prev version and compensating by raising the VII index:It's just a rebranding of the same product, Mobil 1 ESP, apparently "so that name reflects the true spirit of its performance pedigree".
Marketing, nothing more. I wonder if sales will actually decline as a result. I'm sure that a greater percentage of users of the previously labelled product wouldn't necessarily class their vehicles as "supercars". Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen owners, for instance.
There is a European ESP forumula. It was designed for use in C7 series Corvettes and is more catalyst friendly. I suspect that it has less anti-wear properties. I would not use it in a European high performance vehicle. In fact, it is not for use in the C8 Z06 which uses a 5W50 oil.
I don't remember where I saw it specifically, it was either on a product page for the oil or Mobil's website in regards to something with the product. I'll have to dig on that and see if I can find it again. If it can be used appropriately in any application retroactively, why produce an additional product rather than a new product? As far as a vehicle designed for it, straight from the 2021 720s handbook:That's a sweeping generalization: "ESP should NOT be used in cars not designed for it." Please explain your rationale. ESP was designed as a low ash (when pyrolyzed) oil. It should be compatible with any vehicle requiring the same grade of oil. Have any vehicles been specifically "designed" for Mobil 1 ESP formula oil?
McLaren recommends the use of Mobil 1 New Life 0w40 oil for the MP4-12C, but the answer to the question "can it be used?" is yes.![]()
