Sold my 458 and bought a 12 C 10 months ago. I love the 12C and it's even better after upgrade 10. I prefer the 12C to the 458 in all departments except the exhaust note. Any suggestions on what i can do to improve the exhaust note. I know it's not fair to compare a turbo engine to a NA engine but the F40 is turbo and it sounds crazy.

That's a good question. Do you want to preserve the warranty?

Hello,

We offer a few products that will improve the sound and increase power. Which exhaust system is fitted to your car now? If it is the standard muffler system, adding our x-pipe exhaust system will make a noticeable change. If you are looking for even more, you can add our sportcats or cat bypass pipes as well. Please check out the links below to see more info (many pictures and videos). The nature of the 12C's turbo engine means that the note will always be a bit muffled compared to cars like the 458, but it has great potential. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Well I'm in the process of having the system changed on my car as we speak. From what I've been told it sounds great, the guys at Pfaff will be video taping the car and should be released shortly. I had originally opted for the catless system from Fabspeed with the quad blacked out tips. Something occurred during the initial installation, which I thing was a message from above. At the same time, I heard and smelt a catless system that was installed on a R8, the sound was incredible on the other hand the smell was overwhelming. I really would have liked the whole catless system, don't think I could live with the smell. Cheers....??

where was this R8 with no cats? Those cars, along with the LP560 lamborghini have the cats integrated into the headers, pulling them off is an engine out procedure and there is no aftermarket companies I know of making headers for them!

Was told by my dealer the spider exhaust is built differently from the current coupe exhaust and sounds better. Will go for a test drive. Also was told if i did not mess around with the cats and just change the exhaust, my warranty will not be affected. I prefer an exhaust note that is high pitch and the video from fabspeed does not seem to do that.

Pfaff's tuning and believe you me it did not have any cats, lots of noise and extremely smelling unburnt fuel.

Well I just heard my car today with the Fabspeed catted exhaust system. One word will tell you how I feel about the whole experience WOW. I'm truly impressed by the whole experience the sound, fit, finish and the look of the black quad tips. Bellissima as they say in Italian. On top of that I was provided with the latest software update V10.5, so all and all I'm extremely happy and impressed. Cheers.....??

Err, it is a flat plane crank, no?

To the OP and the title of the thread, there are lots of ways to change the sound. Whether you'll be improving it is a matter of opinion! :)
Learn something new everyday. It definitely doesnt have a flat plane sound, so its surprising to learn that.

On the topic of changing the sound, without adding weight with a more complex exhaust the sound will still have a typical turbocharged sound.

I love the way the car sounds, and now that I've changed the exhaust system it's even better. It's louder more aggressive and you can hear the distinct spooling sound that the turbos make, you got to love it. Cheers....??
I love it, too. It's mean and edgy and very unique. I'm pleased to see from that latest P1 video that it sounds very similar, which it would being an evolution of the M838T. So it seems cemented as the signature sound of McLaren - perfect.
