Searching the regional forum was fruitless, so I’ll ask…

Any recommendations for a good traffic attorney that works in Monterey county? I got a BS speeding ticket from the CHP while traveling on their Hwy 1 Revenue Generation Zone, and while I could pay the fines and use traffic school to make it go away… I’d rather fight it.

TIA for any leads!

I’ll follow up on this thread: the ticket was dismissed yesterday. I used Off The Record (app available), who put me in touch with Fight My Ticket to appear for me in Monterey county. Cost was $350. So even though traffic school was an option for this ticket, it absolutely made sense to contest it.

CHP wrote me a ticket for 65 in a 55; officer “did me a favor“ and reduced it from the 72 measured by his rearward Ka radar. Both vehicles in motion driving NB on Hwy. 1, and my Uniden R3 was going off for miles as I paid attention to my speed. So whatever he measured at 72? Wasn’t me.

Anyway, a good outcome. Excellent communication from Fight My Ticket: highly recommend (y)

A traffic lawyer is an attorney who specializes in handling legal matters related to traffic violations, such as speeding tickets, reckless driving, driving under the influence (DUI), and license suspensions. The main role of a traffic lawyer is to defend clients in court, negotiate plea bargains, and provide legal advice on traffic-related issues. They can help reduce fines, protect driving privileges, and minimize the negative consequences of traffic offenses.

I thought the ticket was driving 65 in a 55!

@rw99 I drive around Monterey and Carmel a fair bit and am planning to drive down Hwy 1 to Cambria "soon". Where is the zone that the cops tend to sit in? I don't planning on driving like crazy but always good to know where to be particularly cautious.

Also, is it generally harder for the ticket to stick if the police are ahead with rear facing detector?

I’d have to say the entire stretch of HWY 1 from the Bay Area to maybe Santa Barbara is pretty heavily monitored by CHP. It’s 55 MPH in most areas, so if you’re fortunate enough to have open road ahead it’s easy to quickly exceed the “25 over” threshold and get a more severe ticket. I have personally been pegged by officers using an “instant on” method, where they keep the radar gun off until you come around a corner or crest a hill… so your detector may not sense them until too late. On the hillside twisties there are fewer areas for them to set up, but be ready for sudden inexplicably slow traffic…the views are spectacular and traffic reflects this distraction.

I think the main factor in whether a ticket “sticks” or not remains whether the officer shows up for the court appearance.

Drive safe, have fun!
