I have booked on the Mclaren London Trackday at Castle Coombe and the best insurance offer is £660 with £20k excess and capped at £100k.

This kind of excess begs the question, 'What is the risk of no insurance'

There will be a maximum of 6 cars on track and each car will have a Mclaren 'works' driver acting as driving coach. Castle Coombe is fast but they expect to put in an extra chicane.

Any views on track day insurance? For or Against!

I recently met the CEO of Silverstone and he said they have never had an accident on a Corporate Day.......amazing stat to me but on all the many track days I have completed since 1991 there has been just 3 prangs but they were BIG PRANGS.

I have been unable to find adequate cover for the cars I track . I track them pretty hard but every time I do in the back of my mind is a potential for a huge bill ...
You should be ok if you drive within your limits but if I could cover the cars I would . Better safe than sorry?
I minor looking smash can cost a serious amount of money , heaven forbid a big one in a car with a carbon tub .

An 80 year old with his girlfriend pulled out of a 'T' junction on me........£32,000 of damage(10 years ago), so yes it is easy to run up a big bill.

The concrete pit wall at Castle Coombe, as you enter the main straight at speed, always looks like it is ready to 'jump out' especially as the day runs into afternoon and speeds pick up.

Hang on a few days RIC,i had a phone call yesterday from AON who are working with Mclaren as they are a sponsor.I told them what we needed and the starting point was to take on their cover at my current cover cost with track days covered at what you are quoting £20k excess capped at£100k (already saved you £660 for one day).I asked how much extra to reduce the excess and they are looking into it.Not sure how many days a year you can have as we are still negoitating.Obviously they want to get as many of us aboard as they are having a meeting today with mc london. This is something Francis at the MTC has been trying to organize, looks like we are getting somewhere.
I will keep you all posted when i get more info, unless London and the other dealerships contact you first;)

Thank Andy.

My current insurance agent will dock £700 if I move, after 6 weeks, that will be his commission then!

Anyway, given the comments from Silverstone CEO it seems pretty measurable risk!

Ditto please. I've signed up for the Castle Combe day also and was planning not to insure but if there are reasonable policies out there I probably will do so.

Peter has suffered through my constant buying and selling of cars that most insurers have never heard of for years now and done it briliantly. Highly recommended.
