This Thanksgiving, I decided to take the long way home… What better way to spend a long weekend than a 1400 mile road trip in the McLaren. Early in the morning, we started our journey up California’s coast, eventually making it as far North as Leggett, where the acclaimed HWY 1 meets the 101 for the last time and ends.

Our first stop for breakfast is in Solvang, the perfect Danish themed town.

A worthwhile reminder…Good Life!

Just a bit north of Big Sur, we approach the Bixby Creek Bridge.

Testing out the large-aperture performance of my lens on the patio of Rocky Point Restaurant.

The view here is phenomenal.

One more of the restaurant – it really is a mandatory stop if you are passing by! The food isn’t any worse than the view too.

…even the beer tastes better!

We make it a little further to Monterey – our stop for the first night.

The view in the morning from our hotel is beautiful, as the sun rises over the hills.

A shot of the morning sky through the McLaren’s engine lid.

A scenic stop somewhere just south of San Gregorio. A worthy backdrop for the McLaren.

My co-pilot doesn’t miss the opportunity to model.

We make our breakfast stop at Alice’s Restaurant. In light of the holidays, all meals were donation based and proceeds go to charity. Apparently this is their annual tradition!

We make it past San Francisco and onto the Golden Gate Bridge.

Somewhere off the 1, we find a much needed fuel stop. The beautiful roof soffit caught my eye!

The view does not get old.

We arrive at our hotel in Mendocino and park. Time to explore the town.

East-Coast style throughout.

Strict parenting policies.

Plenty of water towers.

Eager drinkers.

And overpriced fuel.

The following morning, the weather wasn’t looking so good.

But the McLaren was looking great.

Crossed a bridge as we inched our way in the rain to the end of HWY 1.

The end.

Well, not quite the end. We still made our trip "home" to Sacramento through beautiful wine country. Wish we took some pictures, but the camera was in the trunk, and I just didn’t want to stop driving!

Beautiful car and absolutely stunning pics! This is just how cars like these should be enloyed!
Was that $6.00+ per gallon I saw for 91 octane??? Yikes! I know everything is pricey in the bay area but wow! I payed $2.99 for 93 octane just yesterday here in Chicago (suburbs).
I believe you may have a second calling as a photographer by the way.

Well done Valentin! Thanks for sharing the great photos of a terrific trip!

Everyone loves the trip up Hwy 1 near Big Sur and Carmel, but you hit upon a drive I think is even better...
The northern part of Hwy 1, from Stinson Beach, up to shady and serene Monte Rio and Jenner, on to Sea Ranch and bucolic Gualala, then the timeless little town of Elk, through Little River and on to Mendocino. Spectacular. And the trip back inland through the redwoods on Hwy 128 is just as great. If y'all live in California and never tried this, follow Valentin's tire tracks! You won't regret it!

In fact, think I will head up there next week. Thanks V! Maybe I'll stay in Elk, CA at the Elk Cove Inn B&B...

Lunch or dinner at the St. Orres in Gualala!

great pictures, how on earth did the car stay so clean throughout though! I visit Bixby bridge every year when attending car week in Monterey, always makes for great pictures. I did some really long exposure shots at night there.. can wait to go back next year! While not a McLaren, two years ago we had a .2 GT3 and did a similar trip after car week. Those roads really are remarkable.

Oh how I long for a jaunt on PCH with a McLaren motorcar, just to get "lost" yet find what's already there.

Fabulous share, thanks!

Simple recipe for a clean car: drive fast to make sure the dirt blows off! :D

To be honest, I'm surprised myself. I didn't even wash it before the trip. Wheels were purple from the brake dust!
