It's not clear if the communication uses the existing TPMS comms, extending the existing protocol, or if it's entirely new. I would be surprised if it's not possible to get sensors that are compatible with the McLaren-side hardware and software.
Its entirely new, however I have seen how the sensors are fitted to the tires and it does appear to be possible to separate them from the tire then clamp them to the barrel of the wheel using aftermarket parts.

I experienced this same issue on a Porsche with the R888's. I had a huge fight with Porsche over it and in the end reluctantly accepted their explanation. They said R888's had inconsistent belting which was blocking the TPMS signal on some sets and not others. I bought a second set of R888's and brought them to the dealer and watched while they installed one set and the TPMS worked and then changed to other and it wouldn't. I'd purchased them from Tire rack and after fighting with them for a while was finally able to get a refund but it sounds like you are dealing with the same thing.

Finally someone with the same problem as me.....maybe it's as you explain....inconsistency with Toyo. Like I mentioned, I even purchased a BRAND NEW TPMS module and that didn't work either LOL. Anyone need a module? Hahaha

Makes you wonder about the quality control on the Toyos.
Pretty much everything these days! My new PS4S's caused the car to drift left once installed, had to switch them side to side to alleviate the problem and they took more weight than I would have expected in all my years of undercar work as well.... Had a couple of Bridgestone's that flat out would not balance.... Sheesh! What is the world coming to.... I know, I know, first world problems!! :ROFLMAO:

CLOSING THE LOOP:

OEM tires on the front, R888R in rear, TPMS doesn't work.
OEM tires on the front and rear, TPMS works.

I'm shocked and can't even begin to explain how this is possible. In speaking to Brooks (Dragtimes), his thought was that maybe the "newer batch" of TPMS sensors are "weaker" or just not as good?

I did learn that the R888R is a 3-ply steel belted tire whereas the older R888 and gen1 R888R's were to 2-ply. Maybe that small difference in belting makes the difference.

All I know is I had R888R's on all four corners of my 570S and 600LT and did not have an issue. My friend had a 720S with the same tires and also did not have an issue. Sometimes when mounting new tires it takes 15 to 20 miles for it to calibrate and pick up the sensors, I wonder if you just didn't wait long enough. I've had this delay before.

I've tried it all...waiting 10-20-30 min...driving 40 mph and below...driving 60 and above...driving long...driving short...etc...nothing with the R888R worked.

I'm experiencing this now, perhaps the same thing with no explainable reason, but I'm using Yokohama AD09's. I haven't gotten them to read at all after 3 driving cycles and an hour of driving. Factory wheels, and I'm sure I can put the other factory wheels with factory TPMS in them and they'll work.

yikes, I was considering those tires too. How's the grip on them though? Can they handle the 720s power on the street?
