Toyo Proxy R888r on 720s

1050 Views 15 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  EMF Audio (McMedics)
I currently have the stock PZero Corsa's and get 6600 miles out of the rears, how do the Toyo Proxy R888r compare?

i know the Toyo's grip better on acceleration, but what about the following:

Tire Mileage - wear?

Handling - Low & high Speed

Braking?

Noise?

they are noisy. But you can't always have your cake and eat it too, if you want traction for roll racing I'd get them.
R888s are really only good in a straight line. Not the best tire for handling

Yeah? I thought the R888r tire was a DOT-legal track tire.

Is the tire not good for road courses?
And some are having probs with the TPMS sensors working properly with them!

It's ok. There's probably at least ten tires that are grippier. I don't actually know anyone who tracks with R888s anymore because they are just slow

The R888r tire is amazing !

I used it on my 720s for 3 years . Only on the rears tho and I dont do road courses . Just drag strip, half mile events and roll racing .

The tire is loud but when driving a mclsren with exhaust you don't notice the tires at all lol .

They wear out insane fast tho , but that's cause they are super soft compound.

Braking I have no idea as I never did crazy hard breaking .

But I don't believe there is a better street tire for any really high HP rwd cars if you warrant traction

Does it wear quicker than the PZero Corsa?
Nt01 might be a better option if you want a better all around experience. I believe they are relatively close to the r888r for straight-line Traction.

Unfortunately they have a low speed rating .... i need the max speed rating.

Yes , with hard driving I was lucky to get 2-3k kms out of a set of tires . In 3 years I went through 9 sets of rear R888r and had the same pzero front tires the entire time .

Doesn't this come under the heading of "Occupational hazard"???

Everything said here is true. You don't buy them for longevity, you get them for ultimate grip. I don't get more than 3k miles out of them on the street and replace mine every season regardless, the rubber heat cycles out. Braking is amazing and it is actually a pretty good road course track tire. They are loud though; if you want to know how loud, listen to any Dragtimes video with Brooks going down the dragstrip.

That is correct, but I did post a possible solution. I'm not sure if anyone has tried my fix on R888R's though.

What is the purpose you need the tire for?

So strange , I never had a problem with my tpms and r888rs ever . Guess some ppl do some don't 🤷

It seems to be on brand new tires. In the discussion it was mentioned they've recently added an additional steel belt. One said an old set was fine, new set wasn't.
