Twice the price and now half the exclusivity (and most likely falling further). Have to confess that the rationale is starting to escape me.
I don't necessarily believe this to be true. The cars have a '# of 5' plaque on the inside. So far we've only seen 5 so I will await more proof on this topic before I judge it credible info.

ER
I bet sooner or later they will make it, or something similar to it, a purchasable performance upgrade to existing owners. Again this is just my opinion, not something I have heard from a credible source or anything :p
Maybe they were built intended to only be 5 of 5, they sold well, people threw money and lots of it at the dealer and now they're 10 of 5?

Sounds like Maranello math.
#591 of 400...

Sounds like Maranello math.
What, you mean there are 4 of Enzo chassis #309... not just 2???!!! ;)

Or Pagani:D

No, I was more thinking of the 3 F50 Chassis #99999
Sounds like Maranello math.
Agreed. If true, will the first 5 owners have to trade their "# of 5" plaques for "# of 10" plaques?
They can just call them "HS-R", or something, do a minor tweak, and bump the price by $50K.:)
Wasn't there a note that the actual performance upgrade was done by a tuner. I know that the 666 figure has been claimed by at least 2 aftermarket companies. If you add the extra 75HP to the companies 592 you get 667. It seems as if this is the "natural extension" of the cars capability. At that number, I'm quite sure that this car will hang with anything. I would be very surprised if dealers don't take advantage of the extra 10-15K that a tune like that would bring about.

The tuner story is all hearsay. these upgrades all came from MSO, if not McLaren would not have done that photoshoot circulating all over the web. These are bespoke upgrades hence the SPECIAL PLAQUE 6e mentioned;)......which may need changed if 10 is the TRUTH:confused:

+1. It is somewhat concerning to me. Is McLaren going to produce more cars or varitations of their car model just to increase sales. This is a marketing strategy that Ferrari and Lamborghini specialize in. The Ferrari's B.S. has already been described above. Lambo does it too with the multiple minute variations of the Gallardo. While we are at it...Porsche has like 26 variations of the 911. Watching the 911 be used as cheap "whore" really disappointed me.
FWIW, I believe (relatively speaking) the MP4-12C will carry very strong long-term residuals state'side for the very reasons that...

- there's seemingly more of a genuine & refined enthusiast client base wanting an MP4-12C over other choice ~$200k+ (USD) mid-engine exotics; long-story-short: car-guys/petrol-heads (those in the know, as succinctly put my Jay Leno).

- there will be perhaps 1-2 MP4-12C's to every 25+ 458's, 20+ Gallardo's, 15+ R8's, etc.

- McLaren.

Only things I can see precluding such would be...

- petroleum-based fuel becomes a scarce luxury due to wars, embargoes, supply disruption (then there would be bigger concerns than one's mid-engine exotic)

- catastrophic failures/recalls of the nameplate akin to being "lemons" (don't see this happening; hopeful no rival conspiracy ever takes hold)

- manufacturer insolvency (again, don't see this happening... Ron, no risky investments! :D)

Pagani is the master of this. I don't think there is even a base Zonda model. Everyone is some sort of "special" edition.
