Hey fellas,

Two weeks ago Nick from McLaren Newport Beach called me and asked me to go visit him at the dealership to check out the new McLaren. I've bought Lamborghini's from Nick before they launched the McLaren store. I was like why not I've got nothing to do anyways on a Sunday and I haven't seen Nick for a few months. So I drove down to Newport Beach in my Gallardo with my fiancé and we were chatting about all the fuss we've been hearing about the MP4-12C. I've heard Aventador owners dumping their cars after driving the MP4-12C and I was like it can't be that good. I'm a Lamborghini fan at heart and have been blessed to have different Lambo's sit in my garage for the past 7 years. So we got down to the Nick's shop and Nick just came back from a test drive with an older gentlemen in his 50's. Right before the guy left Nick and him shook hands and he handed over a check. After the guy left Nick and I chatted. He told me the guy that just handed him the check has a Carrera GT and he was so impressed with the McLaren he gave Nick a check to hold a spot and he's going to come down again to spec out the car with him. We chatted and had coffee for a good 15 minutes while looking over one of the MP4 sitting inside the showroom. The car was gorgeous but coming from a Lambo fan the outlook of the car was somewhat "boring" to me. I told Nick the car looks so boring and he just said put your coffee down and lets go for a drive. So Nick got in the driver seat and explained to me the different settings the car had and etc etc etc. Finally he fired it up and we took off. He took it real easy and explained to me how to properly use the paddle shifters. He explained that it's a little different from the e-gear system that I've become so accustomed to. After his brief introduction to the car he pulled over and we switched. So I got in the driver seat, got comfy and pulled out on to PCH. It was around 4pm in the afternoon with very moderate traffic. I was playing with the paddle shifters to see how different they were compared to my Gallardo and boy it was smooth and fast. We were constantly stuck behind Sunday drivers for the first couple of lights so I couldn't really get on the gas. Finally we got to a light with no traffic blocking me. As soon as the light turned green Nick said "Drive it like its your car". Without hesitating I floored the beast and the next thing I know I was close to redline in 3rd gear. We got to the next light and I had this WTF look on my face. I couldn't recall being in a stock super car that was this quick and smooth. I've driven pretty much every modern production Lamborghini, Ferrari and never have I felt a super car this smooth and quick. I was truly amazed. It was so easy to drive and insanely fast. I had the privilege to test drive a Veyron about 3 to 4 years ago when they first launched the car in Hong Kong. The Veyron was extremely fast but the car felt heavy and not to mention the price tag. So after driving it about a mile down the road I decided to turn around and head back to the dealership before I make an impulse buy. On our way back to the dealership God cleared the road for us. There was not one car heading back towards Newport. We were sitting at the light chatting and out of nowhere 2 sports bike (600RR) pulled up. I looked over and the guy gave me a nod and then I looked to my right and Nick gave me the Nod and when I looked to my left the guy in the bike was revving. I was like man what a freaking test drive. Next thing we know the light turned green and we were hauling ass. The next light was about half a mile down so we had a good stretch of road ahead of us. As I was driving I was looking scanning for cops while waiting for the guy in the bike to pass me. After I shifted from 3rd gear to 4th gear I looked in my rear view mirror and the guy in the bike was about a car length behind me. I could hear his exhaust screaming. So we got to the next light and the guy popped his visor up and had a WTF look on his face and then he said. I've never lost to a car before. He's raced Lambo's and Ferrari's and have never lost. I could tell he was pretty shocked. About 10 seconds later his buddy pulled up and flipped his visors up and was like you should have seen it from the back. So finally we went our separate ways and Nick and I were taking it easy back to the dealership. Nick plugged my iPhone into the car and showed me the upgraded stereo system in the car. We got back to the dealership and Nick took my fiancé out for a test drive so she could get a feel of the car. They were gone for a good 15 minutes coz traffic was starting to build up and it felt like the longest 15 minutes of my life. I was standing in the showroom staring at my Gallardo not knowing what to do. I don't know how to describe the feeling. It almost felt like I cheated on my extremely hot wife of 7 years with Megan Fox LOL. So anyways they got back from their test drive and I told Nick I need Megan Fox in my life. Fast forward 2 weeks from that day and I finally got an e-mail from Nick with my official order number. The car will be pretty unique. I'm sure it will stand out from the rest of the MP4-12C's out there because I've McLaren Special Operations got involved. I don't know how I'm going to endure the wait from now till December but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Yes, come on lets have that spec. Were already owners with perfect specs:cool:

Nice summary and painted a good picture. I was right there with you.

I took a Hayerbusa riding pal out in my Mac ( he has been working on the new Jag 'Cayman911' sports car.) We are both bikers and like fast sports bikes.

He was truly shocked when I exited a traffic Island (on a German Autobarn) and hit 160mph within a short a distance as possible........is this fast.......first car I've been in faster than a sports bike.........wonder what he reported back to Jaguar on the Monday morning?

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the response and I didn't mean to offend anyone when I said gentlemen in his 50's :D I just turned 30 less than 2 weeks ago and my parents are in their 50's... well I'm sure you guys get the picture :D I'm gonna keep my mouth shut now regarding the age thing and give it a rest :p

Anyways, I was going to keep my specs a secret till I take delivery of the car but what the heck! Here goes... I've added some notes as to why I picked certain options and maybe it will guide others in the future when they spec out their McLaren.

2013 McLaren MP4-12C

Exterior

Standard White (Pearl white was my favorite but decided not to get the pearl white due to the fact that I will be tracking the car. If I get stone chips or scratches it will be impossible to match the factory pearl white paint.)

Body Color Splitter (Really liked the carbon fiber but decided to get it in body color to make the car look a bit lower)

Carbon Fiber Mirror Casing

Carbon Fiber Turning Vanes

Carbon Fiber Diffuser

Carbon Fiber Engine Bay Panels

Sport Exhaust

Stealth Pack

Wheels & Brakes

Super-Lightweight Forged Wheels

Carbon Ceramic Brakes (If I didn't track the car I would have opted out of this option and save myself US$13,130.)

Special Color Brake Calipers

Interior

Black/Red

Alcantara & Leather Interior

Contrast Stitching on Dashboard

Carbon Fiber Interior Upgrade

Electric & Heated Memory Seats (I really like the carbon fiber seat backs but being 6" tall and weighing 240 lbs. I don't want to scratch the carbon fiber. For everyone else I highly recommend this option. I've seen it in person and it looks amazing.)

Carbon Fiber Sill Panels

Carbon Fiber Wheel Arches

Entertainment

IRIS Upgrade with Satellite Navigation & Meridian Surround Sound System (Manditory in the USA and would have picked this anyway.)

Safety & Security

Parking Sensors (Front & Rear) (Living in Los Angeles wherever we go we have to valet our cars. I got this not for myself but because of the valet guy/gal. Yes I'm thinking that far ahead.)

Practical

Branded Floor Mat Set

Car Cover

Fire Extinguisher (Got this due to the fact that I'm planning to track this car and with a car this new you never know if it'll end up like some of the early production 458's and Lamborghini's that love to light itself on fire.)

McLaren Special Operations - Bespoke Exterior Options

Carbon Fiber Mirror Arms

MSO Carbon Back (Engine Cover, Rear Deck Vent, Wiper System Cover)

Louvered Front Wheel Arches (This option cost me more than a brand new Fiat 500 but it's a must have for the die hard McLaren F1 fan!)

Satin Black Wheel Finish

McLaren Special Operations Bespoke Interior Options

Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel (Upper & Lower Areas)

Contrast Stitching in Standard Areas (On Any Material or Color Combination)

Contrast Stitching on Seats (Stitching is NOT identical to Other Panels)

Special Request for McLaren Special Operations

McLaren logo used on the McLaren F1 (Front & Rear) - Awaiting approval from McLaren Special Operations and price but will be a nice touch with the Louvered Front Wheel Arches. IMO it's like a tribute to the McLaren F1. My dealer told me expect to pay about US$15,000 for the emblems. Yes, you read right US$15,000 but imagine the conversations with other MP4 owners when they ask me where I got the emblems from.

MSO Stitching in red to seats & standard areas.

According to Nick, I have the second highest MSRP MP4-12C in the US (Not sure about other regions) but the gentlemen that has the highest MSRP car in the US/World paid in the region of US$550,000. I'm not allowed to say what he's done but he's got a matching McLaren F1 that's being rebuilt at the McLaren factory right now and when his MP4 is done sometime in the next month or two they will both be delivered to him at the same time. Nick told me he's going to call me when both cars arrive at the dealer and I will go down there to check it and and snap some pictures for you all to see.

Ok folks... there you have it... now back to the painful wait.

From what I know here in the US, 2 guys that I personally know have traded in their Aventador's for the MP4. I'm pretty sure there are more.

p.s. Nick sounds like a top man. Showing prospects how to use the Pre-Cog ahead of time is definitely the way to go.
Nick is a stand up guy. If you ever need a Lamborghini or McLaren here in the States you need to go seem him. He's a true enthusiast and one of the most down to earth guys I've ever met.

Thanks HRH,an interesting spec ,the badges will be a talking point among other 12c owners im sure.As for the fire extinguisher it is in the front not in the cab like a porsche,so you need to get used to opening the bonnet as that can be a bit fiddily at times expecially in the heat of a fire:D
ps,when this thread gets found by our far eastern friends they will tell you that you have a bargin as you have paid a similar price for what they get a standard one for!!! Thats dedication and taxes for you!!

You may want to talk to the dealer about where the fire extinguisher will be located. My owner's manual states it should be in the front (as Andy states above) but in reality it's in the passenger footwell. Which, in my opinion, is a far more sensible place for it to be.

I didn't ask for it to be located like this, it's just how it was delivered.

That's an odd place to have the fire extinguisher. I had no idea it's in the front. That's kind of inconvenient if the occasion does arrises for me to use it which I hope I never have to.

The advantages of living in North America as opposed to living in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. I actually just moved back to Los Angeles about 3 years ago. I'm from Hong Kong originally but was raised in the States. I moved back to the motherland about 7 years ago and lived there for about 4 years. I've owned a couple of higher end Italian and German cars in Hong Kong during my stay and let me tell you every time I wrote that check to the dealer it was heart crushing knowing half amount of the check was taxes, road tax, license fee and other fees. For the price of a brand new Gallardo or MP4 in Hong Kong you could be driving an Aventador or a 599GTO.
