Has anyone seen the July issue of Automobile magazine?

There are some details about carbon fiber manufacture I had never heard.
Also it is interesting that the 12C is being compared favorably with cars putting down more power, weighing more, and costing much more.

How is McLaren making money? Presumably not from T-shirts, like Ferrari. That's a lot of tech for the coin, even without variable geometry turbos and direct injection (which might have eliminated the flame-spitting phenomenon and added weight by requiring a particulate filter.)

I would not assume that Mclarens approach to tub build is more expensive than hand creation/laying. Their mould tool is sophisticated and exchanges capital investment for labour intensive traditional construction costs.

In simple words, it is cheaper to make than traditional manual methods but requires significant capital investment.

yes. however, if that monocel is the basic architecture for future cars, amortize cost out with a finite number of chassis, the cost would be much less than traditional methods. Thus, I would imagine future variants and additioanl models based on this chassis.
