Official release set for July 3rd, 2012.
Does it make any sense to wait until just days after the Goodwood Festival of Speed? I don't really get it??

Motor vehicle Vehicle Car Crash Supercar

seems there might be a problem with residual value here after all. Can't understand why?

Seriously though, does anyone know what happened here?
1. Occupants a/w? if so, seriously amazing
2. carbon tub to be reused in next crash test?

The naming of the pic as prev posted suggests that this was a test drive in Germany. Even if the occupant survived they may not have placed an order.

It is hard to be humorous about this in the absence of knowledge re the outcome. Also we do not want owners getting a bad name, like that appalling traffic light incident with a Ferrari 599 in Singapore, but this one appears to be down to the dealer??:eek:

I believe there are more than 30 owners at FoS just now, invited by McLaren so I am sure it will become apparent.

What I find very odd is that with the MY13 car they are showing, why is it not in the only new colour they have to offer...Volcano Yellow?? Doesn't it make sense to show it off?

Because the car is still a 12C. C stands for Carbon, not Coupe. So 12C Spider is the proper name. You wouldn't change SLS AMG to SLS AMS or 559 GTB to 599 GTS.

I notice that the MP4 part of the name is fading further into the background. Clarkson will need new material. :p
Ferrari has often used GTS for open-top cars. 308 GTB and GTS for example.

I agree that in this case 12C Spider was a good call. 12CC would have been cool.

Total nonsense far too soon after the coupe.
They may be brilliant with technology but they don't have a clue about sales and marketing.
Here's why and I know I am only referring to the UK. The brand is tanking in terms of residuals , some on here are sooooooo rich it doesn't matter well seeing cars advertised 40k behind list therefore being bought by dealers at 50 or 60k below upsets me and I am envious of those that can shrug it of - I can't!
So on to the nice spider well who will buy it in UK best place to start is with Coupe owners but they have to accept a huge loss and stomp up an extra 25 k for the new model and spider derivative . So perhaps 75k in all n.ow only celebrities surely can afford that hit. Anyway if existing owners were to change what happens to the coupe part ex , well it will get added to the current over supply of used cars and depress the coupe still further!
Meanwhile the high residual cheaper 458 spider is hitting these shores so good luck Mclaren you are certainly up for a challenge.

Just my opinion but the whole thing is insane to me! Residuals need to be properly addressed. There is dealer stock in UK and that is a disaster and used cars are not selling! This will enlarge the problem and may in short term please investors and shareholders but celebrate in haste and repent at leisure

I am sure I will be panned by the loyal Mclaren fans but sorry I believe this is how it is!

Bruce. Nail on the Head comes to mind. Well articulated. A feeling of exposure and it is an expensive feeling, lack of equity in my opinion.

I think the timing is bad for current owners, but with year-long and greater wait times for a 458 spider, McLaren has an opportunity to snare many impatient cross-shoppers. They have to be focused on volume over residual value right now if they hope to cover their debt.
