I have a spider on order. My dealer says it will be here in January/February. I own a Scuderia today and I'm considering replacing it with the 12C spider. My plan was to keep both for a few months and sell the one I like less. I love the Scuderia but the spider looks amazing and I liked the way the coupe drove.

I thought this is a pretty low-risk move. I figured the spiders would be selling over sticker for a year or so. I would pay $18k in sales tax and figured selling above sticker with less than 1k miles would be feasible (and breaking even). My logic is this car matches up to the 458 spider which will still be over sticker next year.

Is my logic sound or does it seem like selling at sticker is more logical (and thus losing my $18k in sales tax)? I would trade the Scud but its a great car and I want to be sure before selling it.

Thanks

here's what i've seen so far.. you can walk in any mclaren dealer and pay MSRP and get a coupe. To get a spider you have to have a coupe with same dealer if you do it's still MSRP. I think both coupe and spider are incredible cars, I don't think the spider will be over MSRP... Ferrari sadly enough has a different following and dealers that will play the wait and over MSRP game... Mclaren doesn't...

PS where in DFW? I live in Dallas...

Las Colinas Area. I think you are right on the spider not trading over MSRP...

BTW - I dont own a coupe but was able to order a spider no problem. Truth be told - I wanted a 458 spider but refuse to play the game of first buying a coupe...

YMMV: But I've heard of LOTS of people ordering Spiders that don't already have coupes. I'm not sure where that bit of info came form, but if your local dealer is telling you that, I suggest you get in touch with someone at McLaren to put your dealer in check

Do you like the car? If so buy it and drive it. If you are worried about depreciation, enjoy your Scud, and wait 2-3 years until the MP4 Spyders hit 200k. I would never sell my Scuderia or 16M for a McLaren, but I would add one.

Not true, I have been offered a Spyder June delivery at 2 dealers. I do not currently own a coupe.

The only McLaren ownership requirement I have heard of is related to the F1 successor. To date the only people being offered a chance to buy one are current 12C or F1 owners.
