Software Updates While Under Warranty

My dealer wants to charge me $570 for software updates on my 2020 720 S (still under warranty as it was bought in March 2021). I have never heard of software updates not being covered by warranty and don't ever recall paying for them in my 570S.

Updates are the CRCM, DML and DMR. No idea what those even are and service sent the quote at 4:30 on Friday night....

Is this a normal experience?

You are convinced there will be a 750? I believe all the development effort is going into an SUV. Maybe you are right. warming over an existing design may be the plan to hold them over until there is time and money to do the next super series.

Yes. They have stopped producing the 720 and will be producing the 750 (of whatever it’s officially called) until the hybrid replacement comes out. Not so sure they have the capital to develop an suv as that would require a lot of R&D.

I got a survey from Mclaren that asked a lot of questions about EV's and SUV's. They would be foolish not to do an SUV, it is where the money is. Mike Flewitt the ex-CEO said, they would never do an SUV on his watch. His watch ended unexpectedly. I believe they will do it. Fun to watch no matter which direction they go. I have my 720, added 2 year extended warranty last year. I don't find another car compelling at the moment. 765 might lean to much toward the track, interesting for sure but the current prices are a little out of wack to me. The 720 is so much car, crazy when you want it to be yet can go on a summer trip with the wife. It really hit the mark for me. I also have an AMG GTC, which is sexy as hell to me and fits golf clubs. Great daily driver. I swap cars over time. It will be interesting to see what makes me move from the 720.

When my 570S was about to run out of warranty I brought it in and asked my dealer, OGara, here in San Diego to make sure all the software was up to date and they did it for free.

The answer from McLaren warranty was that software updates are not covered unless the customer makes a complaint. When I said that my windows often don't go all the way up (true), McLaren said the updates might help with that and they did them as part of the warranty. On another note, I managed to find Tyreweld on Ebay for about $10, plus $20 shipping from the UK. Seems a lot more reasonable the dealer quoted $170.

Won't work. I tried getting it from the UK and was notified that it was a type of chemical that they couldn't ship through normal channels. Maybe if you buy it by the case and send it over on a ship or something? ;-) Would that be less than $170? Don't know. I just bought a different brand locally.

Glad they took care of the software at least for you!
In fairness, the dealership did show me the email from McLaren factory, so it's not the dealership per se, but rather McLaren. I want to be fair to them, as their service department has always been good about getting my car in an repaired.
