Software Updates While Under Warranty

My dealer wants to charge me $570 for software updates on my 2020 720 S (still under warranty as it was bought in March 2021). I have never heard of software updates not being covered by warranty and don't ever recall paying for them in my 570S.

Updates are the CRCM, DML and DMR. No idea what those even are and service sent the quote at 4:30 on Friday night....

Is this a normal experience?

Is the update necessary? If not, that could be why they want to charge for it.
CRCM is convertible roof control module
DML is driver door control module
DMR is passenger door control module.
That is usually the issue. If there is nothing wrong or broken, warranty doesn’t usually cover the update.
Yet, it doesn’t take long at all to do. So I don’t see why the dealer can help you out. Or at least take the cost down a bit. (Just my opinion)

Just tell them you have random issues w/ the roof, driver and passenger door. In that case then most likely covered under warranty. They don’t fix what isn’t broken unless you have a recall campaign to update the modules.

Likewise I can’t take my Porsche in for a software update just because there’s a newer version out. However they recently sent me a letter saying there’s an update available for my car at no charge.

The dealer should not be charging for scheduled factory updates to the vehicle.

Well, upon closer review they are also recommending a new can of tyreweld, which is due to expire on 2/23. Their price for that canned tire repair, $170.00....

I don't expect it to be cheap to own an exotic, but I also don't expect them to try to take advantage of me.

This dealer serviced my 570S for years and things were fine, and the first couple visits on the 720 were fine, but now it feels like they are trying to bend me over.

OEM warranty always covered my software updates…. always and had several done under warranty… the extended warranty does not cover software upgrades. i would call mclaren corp.

Hey Charlie, just got mine back from McLaren Chicago, I also paid for the Tyre weld I think at about the same $...but I don't think I've ever paid for software updates. They were very fair with their $ on my new Michelin PS4s (comparable to Tire Rack) so I had them do it when there.
Talk with Krystian he should work with you on that!

It looks like Cerulean Blue but maybe it's Ludas...can't tell from the thumbnail...but I agree it's a gorgeous color regardless.

Doh! It looks somehow different. It looks like it’s somehow frosty electric blue. May just be a trick of the lighting.

On a 570, you can just take a picture of the tuner not found message.
