I've been deliberating too about Lightweight vs Standard exhaust. Dropped by Birmingham McLaren today to record some audio clips of difference between standard and super-lightweight exhaust.
Lightweight exhaust is definitely throaty-er, sounds a bit harder edged and bassier, think gruff.
The Standard exhaust by comparison sounded much smoother.
From the outside, at least at relatively low revs in these clips, the difference is growl vs purr.
With both exhausts, the turbos whooshling away is also a nice counter point.

When I visited MPC last week you could definitley tell the difference between the two systems when they started the cars at the end of the production. What really amazed me was the size of the exhaust box, it is small on the standard system but even smaller on the sports, about the size of a sardine tin, all be it a light weight one. I for one do not regret getting the car with sports exhaust, gives a great sound like an American muscle car V8, just wish there were more tunnels locally and less speed cameras

That's awesome, thanks!! Definitely do notice a difference between the 2, the sport is much throatier and rough, and the standard is almost muffled by comparison

Thanks for the taking the time and effort.:)
Correct me if I am wrong, I presume the exhaust would differ in the different modes, are both tests being done in Normal, Sports or Track mode for each car?

Just jumping in!! The external exhaust sound is not altered by the ISG,that only works for the inside of the car.The only difference would be in the fact the gearchange is quicker and the change in auto is higher up the rev range,so you could say it changes the sound ,but not by altering anything in the exhaust:)

Hi Andy,
I understand that the ISG can be set into Loud, Louder and Loudest independently and irregardless of the Engine setting in either Normal, Sport or Track mode.

I was just wondering if the external exhaust note would sound different from the outside in either of the 3 Engine settings.....and if the above test were conducted in which Engine setting mode?

The engine setting doesnt effect the sound of the exhaust RC33,only the throttle response and the gearchange:)
