Should Mclaren Automotive sponsor Tavarish's flooded P1 rebuild?

The title says it all. What are your thoughts about the idea of Mclaren Automotive helping Tavarish to rebuild the flooded P1 to driving condition? It would be interesting to see if Freddy and Mclaren would team up to rebuild the P1...

Do you agree?

Free marketing that would bring more customers to Mclaren Automotive.

I feel like customers who can afford McLarens already know about McLaren. Also, I doubt McLaren would take part in this due to legality issues if for some reason something goes wrong with the car after (salt water problems in vehicles can show up years later), they wouldn’t want any responsibility.

Houston Crosta mentioned when he restored his flooded Bugatti Veyron, everything that was not carbon fiber was replaced. Meaning that the car was stripped down.
For Tavarish's P1, the car will be stripped down and treated for salt water removal, as far as the carbon fiber panels goes. Everything else, we have to wait and see when Tavarish drops the P1 video in March. I would love to see Mclaren sponsor the rebuild as it's their creation, after all.
Why would that at all benefit the brand? The 675 he rebuilt was subpar as far as work quality goes

The typical owner (not related to the repair community ) was more why t.f. Would anyone even do this ? (I fall in this category too).

if he really wants to build it, send it to MSO and pay Mclaren to rebuild it for him

Mclaren is not touching that with a ten foot pole. I have been in the flood car business for 30 years and am fixing a few salt water floods that we bought from down in florida lately , most of the cars we are fixing had water levels to the seat tracks and they are a nightmare ! every electronic device and wiring connector below the water line are rotted off and burned up. that car was over the roof flood. Any salt water that gets into motor, cyl walls are pitted, and any water in the trans eats the water soluble glue off the friction plates in the trans. Been there done that. That car is a lawn ornament !

Possible McLaren involvement in this is a complete joke. Apart from all the obvious difficulties, with nothing to gain, there's no way this car can possibly be restored to like-new condition, which would completely rule out any manufacturer involvement anyway.

Because it will generate alot of interest and revenue based on the views he gets - at least I expect that his plan. If this was not a YouTuber I agree makes zero sense but with Taverish it will be good entertainment. As a 675 owner it was educational to see his last rebuild and I will watch his P1 build.

McLaren will stay well away from this - nothing to gain but plenty to lose.
does OP have a Mac?
I don’t believe so, but I could be wrong. I think they are like me, just a big fan of the brand.

I get that. However, whenever a ferrari/lambo/porsche has some type of mechanical issue/build quality issue, etc., then it is fairly ignored as being a one off or "shit happens"...

Mclarens are not given the same leeway (mainly because other marque advocates are in much, much, much greater numbers on social media and they are there to protect those brands).

Mclaren and the dealers themselves have started to go out of there way to make sure they do not sell modified cars, storied cars, or the cars are marked in their systems... People fixing wrecked cars that were written off by insurance companies, tuned cars, cars with dodgy histories that wind up having issues are not clearly known as being these types of cars..... Social media tends to take these types of difficulties and run with it...

The posting by twinturbo (who is in this business and gave great detail in another thread), was a real eye opener of how this system works... As an owner of these cars; I'd rather have all the tuners/modifiers/bringing cars back to life to just disappear for a few years.

Good point, I was not taking that into account.
I think it would be fun to McLaren involved in such a high profile item.

I am doing a salt water flood 15 mercedes g wagon that i bought for myself , water inside was up to the shifter level, i bought this 2 -3 months ago. so the salt did not have a lot of time to work its magic on the wiring to the point that the wires all started rotting off, but still pretty ugly.
