Is anyone aware whether IRIS will include a satellite radio? If not, I guess I'll have to install an aftermarket unit which would seem silly given that it should be an easy and inexpensive feature for McLaren/Meridian to package - especially since the satnav antenna is already there!

I asked my dealer about this and he said no. It made me sad as, like you, I was kind of expecting a car in this league to come from the factory with it. With that said, I'm not really sure I'm going to *need* it either. I have a pretty extensive iTunes library and I have a pretty good feeling that the first few weeks/months will be spent listening to the 8 cylinder symphony behind me :D

Not sure why they opted out on the SAT feature..I listen to SAT on all my daily cars ..even if I use Ipod as well..International news, financial news etc .are my drive to and from work favorites..not music. For me ,also, SAT is as basic as it gets,,but when in Rome ..:D

Agree with you Stewart. When I balked at my dealer, his best suggestion was iPhone+Pandora (or other streaming service). Great around town, just not an option when tearing up twisties in the mountains though.

So no to satellite radio with IRIS. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket unit? I see some in the $70 range at Best Buy but not sure if there are any compatibility issues. How ironic is it that a $5k sound system upgrade still leaves owners with having to resort to tacky aftermarket gadgets for basic modern day functions?

I'm still at odds why it wasn't designed into IRIS from the outset. I can only assume it has less to do with cost/ability and more to do with business/legal complications.

No SAT is just plain stupid. My daughter's < $30K VW GTI has a SAT option, why can't we have it in a $250K car, especially where they are expecting us to pay $8K for the Meridian/Nav "upgrade"?

I think we should let McLaren know that they really missed the mark on this one, and need to reconsider and add SAT into the Iris package.

From another thread. Looks like Sirius coming: http://www.mclarenlife.com/forums/m...ed-up-today-blue-azure-carbon-everything.html

I want to thank Joe @ Beverly Hills McLaren who did a great job from taking my deposit last July to getting me my car and keeping me updated every step of the way. Very much a class act and would suggest anyone looking to order in Socal to see Joe.

I also got the skid plates installed at the dealer and I suggest them to anyone that does not want to scrape their car on driveways as the nose is very low to the ground.

I was also told once the IRIS software is ready it will include SIRIUS also as part of the free ugrade.

I used my ipod the whole way home at volume 85 with bass and treb +6 with rear speakers +5 and sounded great.

Was traffice whole way home so did not really get to test it out. I did test out Normal/Normal and was very nice ride the whole way home.

Here's what I sent today to Client Services in response to their "how's it going" email. I hope I didn't offend them by being too harsh.

I absolutely love the car, and it has exceeded my expectations on both performance and comfort... The one area of disappointment is Iris, and it is an unmitigated disaster on a number of fronts, in my opinion:

1) Failure to deliver Nav/Sat/BT 8 months and counting since first customer shipments.
2) Continuing failure to inform the customers about what is coming and when.
3) Poor performance on the parts that have already been delivered, especially radio reception.
4) I just learned (not officially, since there are no official communications about Iris) that satellite radio will not be included. I find this hard to believe, since you are already charging $8000 for Iris. My daughter’s $30,000 VW GTI has a factory satellite radio option installed, and it didn’t cost us $8K! If it is true that Iris as currently spec’d does not include satellite radio, McLaren MUST revisit this decision and add it in.

I expect my request for the owners report will be forthcoming shortly...Do you mind if I simply " cut & Paste "( as I share your sentiments exactly) ...all but point 4)..here I will add that my daughters 20K Fiesta has a great Sat radio ....I started the poll re: Iris as it was the only way I thought McLaren might pay attention to this situation..however individual replys like yours could prove to be even more impactful..The decision to eliminate a feature that is practically standard in all cars today makes no sense at all. Especially in light of McLaren's desire to position the MP 4 as a supercar that can be driven daily...I have SAT in every DD for many many years...Huge disappointment.

There seems to be some inconsistency in what people have been told re: SAT. Let's hope it will be part of the impending software upgrade. If that is the case, McLaren should notify owners ASAP before some proceed to install aftermarket receivers and control units. To say the antenna puck and control unit won't compliment the interior is an understatement.

Yeah, at this point I will have wires and units everywhere, bluetooth, tom tom, SAT radio, SAT antenna, radio booster, R2-D2, Parrot, hard drive, iPod(oh yeah iPods don't work I mean touch). I'm kidding of course but it would be nice to worry about getting a ticket for not using handsfree.
