Seems impossible, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

looks like the fchatters are super scared. LOL cant wait to see the results. What this car can do on a performance level already is staggering.

1/4 10.9
0-124 8.9

To be in the same company as the veyron for the quarter mile is crazy. Mclaren obviously did an awesome job. cant wait to see the real reviews of this car. Only negative thing i have heard are looks and feels clinical. I will take that any day, because too me it looks awesome and clinical to me just means damn fast!!!!!

Freaking awesome cant wait to see it. Definitely going to stop by Mclaren dealer in chicago to take a look at this beast. Very excited to hear about the track times
Dtm (2010)

a DTM car would do 6min 40 seconds around the "Ring". if the Mclaren P11 would do 7min then the McLaren p12 should dipp under 6min 50 seconds with ease;-) probably even the Ferrari F70 would dipp under 7min. what's the pointin having racing cars;-) ha ha ha ha:p

Just watched the 599 XX video again @ 6min 58 seconds and having a hard time believing any real road car can come close to 7 min flat. The cornering speed in that video is insane that that driver certainly wasn't holding anything back. I'm predicting 7 min 15 seconds for the 12C, for now. On the full length (i.e. not the slightly shorter length that Porsche apparently used to get their 7:18 time for the GT2 RS).

Anybody else want to put in a guess? A friendly wager?

Remember, though, 12c is supposed to pull 1.7g in turns. That is race-car territory. Overall, though, 7 min flat seems impossible. I will be optimistic, though, and call it 7:10.

Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package smashes Nordschliefe production record with 7:14 lap

The web is afire with news that Lexus has managed to demolish the standing production-car record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The news comes courtesy of EVO Magazine's own Chris Harris and Lexus itself via the miracle of Twitter. Lexus test driver Akira Iida reportedly managed to twist the LFA Nürburgring Edition around the infamous circuit in 7:14. If true, that time puts the carbon-fiber exotic four-seconds ahead of the previous production-car champion, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, at 7:18, and it puts the LFA Nürburgring Edition in the top five quickest vehicles to ever run the track.

Impressive.

We'll keep you posted with more information as Lexus releases details on the run. Here's hoping they had the video cameras rolling while they were out laying waste to the Green Hell.

Any journo's or even McLaren planning to take the MP4-12C back out on the 'ring (last I recall was the crash in late May)? What time would one think that it would post?

Those are amazing vids.

Wow, that is going to be tough for the 12C to beat. That is a serious wing on the back of that LFA and it must be generating a lot of downforce. Wonder what the semi-slick tires are? Michelin Pilot Sport Cups?

It took me a while to warm up to the LFA, but the more I see (and hear) of it, the more I desire one. Badass. Great job, Lexus.

Re: the 12C - McLaren said they already had a Ring time, but they wanted to get more video before releasing it. I think that is what they were trying to do when they (Goodwin?) crashed the white car. Not sure if the Ring time they are talking about is an actual time or a theoretical time from their simulator.

Cristian Martii told me they had an actual ring time, which they were very happy with, but it was at the end of their alotted time and it had been raining during the last minute of the lap,so it was pointless posting it as their best time

Thanks. Wonder if they are still "happy" with it, after the LFA's time. If not perhaps we'll see a new tire on the OEM option list!

I would think so,dont forget they have a softer compound on the standard tyre because of the compliance of the suspension
,so their ring time will be more about the active suspension and balance of the car under braking with the air brake,2 things the LFA dosent have,as well as being lighter and more powerfull,so i would think the 12c on a good day should be several seconds quicker then the LFA,as it is around everyother track its been compared to

The standard LF-A did the N'ring in 7.38s, this special-edition Lexus LF-A Nürburgring Package did it in 7.14s. I have no idea what upgrades/changes the latter has over the former.

FWIW, the GT2 RS did the N'ring in 7.18s a year or so ago.
LFA Times

I think the time of 7:38 should be taken with a pinch of salt. Horst Von Saurma is not exactly the fastest driver around the "ring". Big experience yes, but not the fastest. Sport auto normally is 10 seconds slower no matter what sort of car they test. Compared to the factory best. Lexus owners did 7:28 with new Bridgestone tires. And the "ring" version is 100 kg lighter and have a little bit different suspension and new Super Sport tires. 4 seconds faster than a Porsche 997 GT2 RS is hardly any mission impossible to be honest.

McLaren MP4-12C could probably go even faster with a professional driver. One have to remember that a Lexus cost double:) Maybe under 7:10 is possible? Let's hope so. Early reports indicated low 7 minutes or so, some said that Steven Sutcliffe had heard that Chris Goodwin had done a lap under 7 minutes?? Sounds optimistic, but maybe it was done in a P11?? Anyway one have to look at it in this way.. A Ferrari 599XX with slicks did it in 6:58.. And it cost 1.5 million U$ dollars..:p

Yeah the 7:38 must be whack - because that would mean they shaved 24 seconds.

And for the 599XX - not in a position to compare race slicks with the most slicky DOT legal stuff - so I'll ask those who know: is there still a huge difference? ...for some reason I'm thinking a set of non-DOT race slicks would be a big advantage ...

...or, given the source, that they'd put something on it that would only last 7.5 minutes, say.
