... 'scuse my ignorance but, is the sports exhaust 'active' only when track mode is selected? Or does sport mode do it too....

It's always "active" throughout the modes, including Normal. However the sound dump into the cabin is only open in Sport and Track modes.

Correct, the sound from outside the car does not change at all as you go to the more aggressive modes. But intake noise / engine is piped into the interior of the car more as you select the more aggressive modes.

Commencing with 2013MY cars .... you can selectively control the "piped-in" sound (Intake Sound Generator) across 3 levels in all three of the "Powertrain Modes".

How will that be controlled? There are now enough levers or setting options. Will it be through the instrument panel "set-up" ? If so, it will be a pain to change back and forth.

It was in a McLaren press release back in June ... I heard that it will be controlled on the instrument panel; as you stated, many other features currently are.
