I will say that to come up with a theory on why McLaren would not release their time... gets a bit conspiracy theory like. "They are saving it for future use so as to surprise everybody somewhere down the road", "they don't want to give Porsche and Ferrari a target to aim for"...

Those are more complex and elaborate than "it just didn't work out", occaam's razor?

You could imagine a certain Italian car company trying that to reduce lap times. Both drivers in same type of full face helmet, same gloves (fine Italian napa leather), same overalls. Gucci driving shoes.
