Picked up a 12C and long road trip

Greetings all - I picked up #1562 from McLaren Philadelphia last Thursday afternoon and am loving the car. Volcano Orange/Carbon Black, ~22,500 mi, full dealer service history since new. Drove it from Philly to Richmond, VA that evening. Friday morning up early, made a stop in Greenville, SC for lunch with kid #1, then up to Louisville, KY that night through torrential rains in the Smoky Mountains. Saturday morning brunch with kid #2 and made it to Topeka, KS that night with snow flurries and below freezing temps most of the way. Sunday morning up early again and a drive across KS with high winds, blowing dust and dodging many tumbleweeds (glad for the PPF!), arriving home in Denver in the afternoon. Car was flawless throughout, sipping 93, 91, 88 and even 87 octane fuel while yielding 23.5 mpg overall for the tip. No warning lights, no hiccups of any kind. Great trip and enjoyed chatting with dozens of people who asked about the car at gas stations, restaurants, motels, etc. Looking forward to being a part of the community here!

Yes - turns out it wasn't CPO and I worked out a very significant discount
Interesting. I was told that any Mclaren sold at a Mclaren dealer has to be CPO’d. Good thing you’ve been able to work a discount though.

Not true.
Wow, that's volcano orange at night? Looks awesome!

Looked almost coppery in the night shot, while sometimes it has gold undertones, sometimes almost reddish gold and sometimes, well, just orange. Love how it changes with the light!

Thanks! Right at 2,200 mi including a couple of detours. Super comfortable road car. There was some wind noise from the frameless windows as I approached the legal speed limit (;)) in various states, but other than that no complaints. I bought a bluetooth dongle so I could stream music from Tidal and had my Escort Redline 360 watching the perimeter. Other than some wild weather at times, an uneventful trip.
Which dongle did you end up buying for this and how is the quality?

I ended up getting this one as it was suggested by a couple of other forum members: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DRMS57Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

It works fine with my iPhone. The Meridian system isn't the best and with the wind and road noise I couldn't really judge quality but, since my IRIS 1 doesn't have sat radio, streaming, etc. the $10 I spent was well worth it. I may do some sort of audio upgrade on the car down the line, but this is fine in the meantime.

Thanks. I'm still undecided whether or not IRIS 1 is a deal breaker for me.

Nothing that $$ can’t solve!

Congratulations Boat Man! Beautiful car! Great road trip too!

Thanks man! Hope you're enjoying your 'orange' too!
Not tuned, yet. I'm having 4 new MPS4S installed (car came with P Zeros on the front and somewhat worn Cup 2s on the rear) , along with 15mm spacers and 40mm Ti lug bolts from Exotic Car Gear next week. Considering an M-Engineering tune but haven't committed yet.
You were a mere 30 miles from me, I'm in Spartanburg SC. Those tires were the worst possible for your application, you can only enjoy the car more at this point. I'm in M-Engineering dealer, my 12C has their tune and my 720 is about to have their tune. I'll be glad to answer any questions or concerns you have about the tune. Also, I travel to do service should you need anything back in Denver.

I'm curious who told you that, because that's VERY wrong.

I've had IRIS 1 for nearly 5 years and I'm OK with it. If you aren't using the factory nav the only benefit is streaming BT audio which can also be solved. IRIS 2 you can have a reverse camera but it sucks.

Wish I'd had time to coordinate stopping by to say hello! I'm enjoying your videos - well done, and extremely informative. I will no doubt be reaching out to you regarding a tune and likely for more challenging service items as well. Thanks for chiming in here.

I'm mostly ok with my IRIS 1, particularly when I was quoted $12K-$14K from the dealer to upgrade to IRIS 2! Might consider the smart mirror or some route to get a decent backup camera.

That's why I got mine, the reverse camera. I made a custom mount though, not one of the strap-on's. If you do decide to go that route, I'd do the reverse camera only (the others are slow and clunky) and the bigger the screen is not better. Mine now is a 10" I think it's and it's borderline too big.
