Phone mount solution for 720S & 765LT.

After a LOT of experimenting, starting with my old 720S, I believe I’ve finally found the perfect (OEM quality) phone mounting solution for us 😅

This position is in my eye-line when driving, easy to reach, easy to unlock with Face ID (or touch), and nicely usable for Waze alerts 👮🏽‍♀️

It’s also neat and extremely robust.

Any phone will fit if width 61-83mm, thickness 6-11mm.

Fully wireless, and you just slide the phone down into it, easily with one hand. Qi charging, tested working with slim case fitted.

No interference with key in this position (no “key not found error”).

1/ get the Brodit bracket for 720S
2/ install a universal Qi phone holder model 718300

Plug the supplied charger into the power socket behind the gear selector array.

That is nice. I just use a clip on vent holder on my nonfunctional central vent that was broken before I got the car.

No shit! The Artura has the screen mounted like a phone, so it can't be THAT difficult to sort something out that would accommodate 95% of current phones.

I agree, and did ask McLaren about this.

The answer relates to crash regulations in certain jurisdictions. Too costly/difficult to engineer to make it universal.

And CarPlay effectively negates most of the need - in Artura and newer McLarens.

There is a holder in i8 for example, but it sits under the central armrest cover AND clamps the phone. Overkill, and also means the phone massively overheats in charging, so I have never used the OEM one in i8.
