Has anyone had a problem with the paint "rippling" around the rear quarterlight/C pillar? I'm told that it is a known problem and they are still working on a fix.

Mine has been resprayed in this area a couple of times so far but the problem continues.

Jerry, I was informed that the rubber seal is simple too stiff and/or poorly profiled and this issue will be on going and very costly for Mclaren until re-engineered.

I think that there is also about 7mm of thermal expansion/contraction in this area which, combined with the stiff seal, results in this problem.

Mine is back for attention again next week so I'll be finding out if there is a fix soon. Will let you know.

Volcano orange, no problems. My detailer said its the best factory job he's seen, exceot for the MSO black roof which is very soft and scratches/swirls easily. The black is also very thin and when you shine a detailing light on it you can actually see the VO underneath, complte with the mica flakes!

guys,
i don't want to beat the dead horse but what's the word from factory about this issue? or, has it even been addressed? i haven't heard anything & i'm not happy about it.

today when i wash the car again i notice the driver side start to develop the same issue as the passenger side. it was def not there before. when i first posted about the passenger paint problem my driver side was absolutely perfect. today i notice the paint start to lift just like the passenger side. that means the seal is pushing the paint really hard & i'm also wondering where the stress is coming from since the chassis is a solid carbon tub.

just want to give the guys a head up. my experience is telling me if u don't have this problem from factory that doesn't mean u won't have the problem down the road. keep an eye on it for sure!

I've been told they expect to have a replacement around end of summer - it'll replace the window seal with a different material to contend with the CTE mis-match. McLaren has already stated they'll repaint any cars with issues, and my dealer said just to wait til they have the fix.

good. i heard the same at least. just makes me wonder is it a bigger trim piece that goes around that covers the exist line. figure it cost them that long to develop the car yet they can't get a simple window trim right...

also trying to avoid repainting the car. even goes back to factory just doesn't make sense. it's interesting to see my driver side starts to develop the same problem. meaning repainting the panel isn't gonna stop from this to happen again...

Got mine a few days ago and I did notice the same thing on the passenger side window. Mine is graphite grey. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this as I thought that I got unlucky. The seals do tend to be very rigid for that area. Also, my passenger window doesn't go up all the way into the upper groove leaving maybe a few mm of space unlike the driver's side. Did anyone else notice something like that?

I spoke to my Mac dealer and he told me that UK hasn't come up with an answer for the paint problem on the rear window sill but most likely he said that they will NOT repaint the area but just buff it out and come up with softer rubber seals that are larger then the current version so that it will cover the pain imperfections.
