Personally I don't like the intake noise at higher settings in the system. I guess the noise is artificial and not actual intake noise? Too much intake noise just takes me back to "pancake" filters on my 1600 Mk1 Ford Escort ;-) Much better at minimum in all areas!

How do you alter the noise in the cabin?
Go into your dashboard setting. Select the mode that says "car or something like that". First mode should be Valet and then you have the Intake Sound Generator option. Go in there and you can adjust.

I really dont like the sound generator. Sounds so fake and bad its embarrassing.
Much prefer some real mechanical sounds and adjustable exhaust growl.

I feel retarded. I've been driving a month and I thought the only noise options were Active vs Inactive. Gonna have to look into those menus and experiment more. I will say that I think it sounds just fine when driving hard and high in the revs.

Though I found that leaving the car in active mode with track powertrain while just cruising at like 70mph is unappealing. You really need high revs or else you get this bubbly gurgling sound that's loud and annoying.

So, returning to my original question, I guess the intake noise is generated through the stereo?
If so, can it be set to ANR mode for screaming passengers?

No it's taken via a now controllable valve from the induction manifold - search for ISG
It can be set on various levels for each power setting.
Mine is turned off in all settings as after a while it gets a bit much.
It really is a case of RTFM ;)

On a recent charity rides day, I actually turned mine on to level 1 as I found it created more drama when doing a single lap, sure the passengers couldn't talk over it when going down the straight at 165mph:D but I did try a few laps with it off and the car just went and did its things rather quickly but without the V8 sound I think the passengers were looking for...

They need to sort this then... Maybe Ron had a Mk1 1600RS Escort as a lad, and thinks "Pancake" filter noise is still good... IT'S NOT!

Mine's turned off (or at the lowest setting) in every possible mode. I actually think it sounds better that way. Not only that, it ruins the quiet moments in "And Then Were Three"!!!

Seriously though, I love noise as much as the next man, but what were they thinking?

Andy, you missed my point,i agree with you,the ISG needs some tuning, but McLaren wouldn't stoop so low as to computer generate it through the speakers !! :)

I don't think the band was the same after Hackett left. Now, Wind and Wuthering, is a much better post-Gabriel effort IMO. I very much enjoy listening to Eleventh Earl of Mar whilst ripping up some back road.

Steve Hackett playing in NY area this month, but unfortunately I cannot go.

Basicly there is a tube that goes from the engine to the cabin. The tube can be closed level 1, partially open level 2 or open level 3. Does that make sense?

There's definitely a difference in each setting. As you move up in each increment, you should be able to hear the difference.

This ISG is something that gets replaced every year I believe. I know it was part of the 1 year or 10k service anyways. I don't think I'll pay to have it replaced again though. Seems just another BS of a way to get more $$ out of a "recommended" service interval.
