Hello Gents,

Personal Background
My name is Jeff Ritter, and for the past ten years I have been the High Performance Division Mgr. at Essex Parts Services. Prior to that, I was the sales mgr. at StopTech for roughly 5 years. I've been autoXing/tracking my own cars since 1999, and my stable over the years includes or has included a wide range of track-oriented vehicles. I've also been participating in online automotive forums since roughly 1999. You can find my posts under the screen name jritt across a wide range of forums, and you can read my professional bio here. Chances are, there is someone on this forum who I've helped with brakes at one point or another over the past 16 or so years.

I've also authored several articles and videos about high performance brake systems. Hopefully you'll find them helpful. You can view these items in our Essex Parts Learning Center.

Essex Parts Services Background
Essex Parts Services is located in Charlotte, NC and has been in business since 1981. We are the exclusive importer and distributor for a number of high-end, mainly European brands including: AP Racing Brakes, Ferodo Racing brake pads, Spiegler SS brake lines, etc. You can watch a short video and read more about our company here. Historically our focus was on professional racing. More recently however, we've been working on bringing the technology from our professional racing experience into the aftermarket and making it available to the track day enthusiast. Many of the exclusive products we sell have either been used in professional racing, or contain a number of features that in the past have only been available at the higher echelon of racing.

Competition Brake Kit Project Background
Several years ago we began developing a line of brake systems geared towards heavy track users. We call them our Essex Designed AP Racing Competition Big Brake Kits, and we currently have applications for a host of popular racing/track day/AutoX/time trial cars. We are extremely popular in the Porsche, Corvette, and BMW markets. Our Competition Kits are designed with the sole mission of making you go faster and use the latest racing technology to improve performance. They focus on ultra-low weight, extremely durable materials, and inexpensive and readily available spare parts (pads and discs). They are built around components by AP Racing, arguably the top performance brake manufacturer in the world. More specifically, we are using AP Racing’s patented Radi-CAL technology.

What is an AP Racing Radi-CAL?
“Radi-CAL” is a blanket term used to describe AP Racing’s patented asymmetrical brake caliper design. Radi-Cal technology is grounded in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and allows for organic, alien-looking designs that are a radical departure from conventional caliper designs of the past. Since their inception in 2007, these revolutionary calipers have amassed a lengthy string of race victories at all levels of professional motorsport, while redefining brake performance expectations. For an in-depth look at the Radi-CAL technology, please check out “The AP Racing Radi-CAL Story”.

What are other people saying about your brake kits?
We have introduced our systems on other forums similar to McLaren Life, and you can see those introductions and the ensuing follow-up in the links below. You can also see a ton of owner feedback on the Essex Parts Blog.

So why are you on McLaren Life?
AP Racing and Essex have supported various McLaren racing efforts over the years. One of the higher profile efforts here in the USA were the K-Pax Racing 650S GT3 racecars in World Challenge, which ran an AP Racing Radi-CAL brake system. Back in 2016, the 650S GT3 set the Bathhurst lap record on the Radi-CAL…click here for a video.

The Super Series has been growing in popularity, and we’ve seen more and more of our enthusiast customers around the world making the leap to McLaren from other brands (most notably Porsche GT car and Ferrari owners). After our extremely successful launch for the Porsche 991 GT3, we decided that it was time to provide the same cutting-edge brake technology to McLaren owners.

We recently introduced our Essex Designed AP Racing Radi-CAL Competition Brake Kit for the McLaren Super Series. So far we have only confirmed fitment on the 720S, the MP4-12C, and the 650S, but we believe our system is applicable to all of the Super Series cars. We will update our listing as we confirm those fitments.

We have our system currently installed on a couple of 720S, most notably a school car at Exotics Racing in Las Vegas. That car has been racking up a ton of track miles on our brake system for a couple months now with spectacular results. Their pad and disc consumable costs have dropped to a fraction of what the OEM system costs so support, and they have a much wider

But doesn’t my McLaren already have a decent set of brakes?
Yes, yes it does. The factory brakes are a wonderful solution for sporty street driving, but they present numerous issues when thrashed on the racetrack:
  • Durability- Carbon ceramic discs work well for a limited amount time at track temps, but they eventual oxidize and disintegrate from the inside out. Properly designed iron racing discs still reign supreme in terms of track durability. We’ve had customers get many thousands of track miles out of AP Racing J Hook iron discs. The OEM calipers have aluminum pistons with dust boots, neither of which are particularly well-suited to the searing temperatures of track use, and their painted finish is also prone to deterioration and color shift with repeated track use. The pads that are mated to the carbon ceramic discs don’t last particularly long at track temps either.
  • Cost- Closely related to durability is cost. The OEM carbon ceramic discs and matching pads are hideously expensive to replace. Our iron racing discs not only last far longer under track duress, but they cost a small fraction of what the carbon ceramic discs cost (our discs are $599 per iron ring, and a top set of racing pads is under $500.).
  • Convenience- Our brake systems are typically viewed as the final solution for those who have unsuccessfully tried all other brake solutions. Our customers relax in the pits with friends between track sessions, instead of wrenching on their cars.
  • Confidence- Our customers tell us that our systems instill an added level of confidence in the car that is typically worth 1-2 seconds per lap. Yes, that sounds ridiculous to any avid enthusiast or racer, but we hear it over, and over, and over again from our customers. Again, check out our blog to see it in their words not ours!

We'd like to share some exciting news with all of you. For the first time ever, Essex will be offering a substantial discount on our complete line of AP Racing Brake Kits! If you place a brake kit order with us between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you’ll receive 10% off. This offer is valid on our McLaren Kit featured in this thread. While 10% may not initially sound like much compared to some of the bloated, bait-and-switch discount offers you’ll see this holiday season, it equates to over $1,000 in total savings on this application!

We’ve fortunately never been in a position where we’ve needed to discount our brake kits, and to be quite honest, we’re still not. However, as awareness about our brake solutions has grown, we’ve been receiving more and more requests for some type of special sales event. We figured Black Friday was as good a time as any to have a go at it, so here we are. Hopefully this event provides some of you the right moment to take the plunge. We have no plans to make this an annual ‘thing’, nor do we anticipate offering this type of savings anytime again in the foreseeable future. In summary, get ‘em while the gettin’s good!

Additionally, we’ll be offering 10% off on all AP Racing Brake Fluids, with no limit on the purchase quantity. So be sure to grab some fresh fluid to go along with your shiny new brake kit.

Finally, our physical office location will be closed on Friday, but online orders will be available. We'd encourage you to please place your order online, and if you need any assistance we'll be sure to lend a helping hand when we're back in the office on Cyber Monday. If you have any questions beforehand, feel free to contact us at 704-824-6030 or [email protected]

Thank you very much for your continued support, and please be sure to share this info with all of your track buddies!
