Oh, and I must add, THANK YOU McLaren for launching the car with a set of beautiful, professional photographer photos of a real car instead of anemic airbrushed images. Well done, the press and critics will reward you.
6th E - I agree. I am looking forward to 'real' shots that show the car more realistically.

Scottish,i think 6E was meaning the first pictures of the coupe, and was commending Mclaren for this launch:)
PS,please apologise to Syd and Bernard,i didnt get chance to say goodbye at Goodwood.
yes I like the photos, like on GTSpirit: http://www.gtspirit.com/2012/07/03/official-mclaren-mp4-12c-spider/

A world of difference compared to the shoddy images the 12C debuted with. Doubt too many will saddle the Spider with the description "bland" on first impression.
good job

the transformation is more efficient than in the ferrari

the car is more agressive imop
For the anoraks out there you can have semi aniline leather which 'is more naturally textured leather' so Mclaren have sold me ordinary leather........but I like it........why do marketeers fail to think through how I feel about my choice of leather???

You can now have contrast stitches on your seats.

It is amazing how they make the roof disappear in the blink of an eye, must get to Fezzas craw......we will now have roof wars with journo supplied Fezzas with super fast roofs beating the 12C.......roof down or hands down.

I applaud this decision as well. Dan Connell named the photographer on Twitter - he does excellent work!

Is there any video yet of the roof opening/closing?
Have not see video yet but it will be a short one with just 17 seconds from closed coupe to open air motoring.

I am not a big fan of convertible sports cars BUT the 12C spider is IMHO absolutely amazing!! I can't wait to see it in person!

I just realised that I read it wrong, therefore I must disagree :p

I will try to remember to pass it on when I next speak to him :)

Don't know if i agree with that statement. Now please bare in mind i do not like convertibles anyway, so this is a biased point of view.
ANY company that turns a coupe into a convertible ( as apposed to a car designed as a convertible and turns into a coupe aka SL) ends up with compromise in styling because of safety/strength/room/location concerns. ( Except with Mclaren and the SLR, exception to every rule! ) Now i know that there is no strength or rigidity concerns with the 12C spider and that is a massive achievement, i have not driven a 458 spider but the 16M for sure you can feel chassis flex, as with all Porsche's and BMW.
The 12C spider looks a bit odd with the roof up because of the joints, and with the roof down from certain angle still looks like a coupe . the pictures from rear corner showing the big roll hoops etc looks ugly and bulky to me. As for the engine cover, keeping the glass seems a bit of gimmick to me, looks like all you can see is the coolant tank and a plastic side panel. I think they did this more because Ferrari didn't.
I would be interested to see the crash data published as i suspect it is the same as the coupe, which i think no one else but Mercedes could claim ( Mercedes SL is the only convertible to pass passenger car safety standards in the US), that should defiantly be screamed from the roof tops.
Again im a coupe guy through and through, so its just not my thing, but i really hope the spider gets the interest going in the US again. They need to not make too many, make sure there is always less cars than people who want them.

Im waiting for the GT3 spider to turn me into a convertible guy :D, and Mclaren is the only company that can do that !!

How are other cars allowed to be sold if they don't meet the safety standards?
Think he means coupe and convertible versions offer same safety levels as each other and nothing has been lost when converting it to an open top, unlike all other such cars.
Okay - one complaint I do have is that when you request the wallpaper of the Spider you have just configured on McLaren's website, it shows the car with the roof up.

How is that going to get anyone excited about their new Spider?

I totally agree Peloton25! The MP4-12C Spider looks great! Love the color. However it is really too bad that the configurator outputs wallpapers that are old-school 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions - with no choices for widescreen formats. But the worst part is.. THE TOP IS UP ON THE SPIDER! Is there not a choice to make it shown with the top down? Especially since it is a convertible? The wallpaper ends up showing the top up... and it ends up NOT looking like a Spider! Not too exciting. :(

Correct.

All different types of vehicle (wagon, truck, SUV etc) have different safety/crash standards. You would not expect a car with no roof to have the same basic strengths as a car with a roof, "B" and "C" pillars etc. The MB SL was the 1st convertible to achieve that. I know the 12C hasn't lost anything by removing the roof, and am pretty sure the SLR didnt either.

On a side note, a very well informed engineer once told me that the Mclaren F1 was the only car to ever do the UK frontal 30mph crash test and be able to drive back to the factory after !!!:) I wonder if Peleton and confirm this:D
