Hi guys,

I'm in the game for a MP4-12C but what still holds me back is the lack of proper sport seats and 4/6-point harness. I'm attending 5-6 trackdays a year (NBR, SPA, HH, Dijon) and driving such a quick car without 4/6-point harness is just not an option to me.

I did search the board and came across some small hints regarding a road legal version of the GT3 racer. Is this pure speculation or are there any concrete plans/promises you have heard of ? Or at least proper seats/harness for the 12C ?

Since I don't rely on the small chance to retrofit such stuff on the current 12C, the only reasonable alternative would be buying a 991 GT3 due next spring/summer. It will sport double clutch trans, optimized aero and around 460 to 480hp, should be pretty quick around the ring (<7.30).

But I'm in love with the Macca and would very much prefer it to the GT3

Your thoughts, gentlemen ?

It's speculation so far. But a strong possibility as it seems some brass have alluded to it, off the record. Doubt it will arrive before 991 GT3, as the 458 Scud is not even out yet and Mc looks ready to release 12C Spyder first (plus F1 replacement).

OMG, another 2 years, I don't think I can wait that long.

I expected the 12C to be released with proper bucket seats and harnesses from day one. Honestly I didn't spend a single second thinking that it would miss this feature.

So within a year we are going to see two new cars, according to Ron. That would then be the 12C Spyder and the MegaMac. Given this schedule, a "GT" version won't arrive before fall 2013 or spring 2014.

However, personally I don't "need" a GT version, because it means event more $$$ and most likely less comfort. The current 12C with a regular factory option "manual sports seats with 6 point harness" would be just fine. And make the car even lighter.

@AMLVantageV12: Not yet but good idea, thank you.

This is precisely what I am so eager to find out. In theory, the GT car could have version 2 of the hydraulic suspension and therefore have a road setting that is even more comfortable than the standard car. Probably less sound insulation, though. But it could be just as, if not more, comfortable to drive in traffic and on crappy roads. While at the same time being even faster around the track. Other GT version cars with traditional anti-roll bars don't have that option.

That is indeed a possiblity regarding the damping, you are right. But in general, less sound isolation, the use of lightweight materials on windows, door boards etc. means less comfort. Which of course makes sense in a GT car but is not exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm addicted to the AND-car philosophy and the masterplan is to replace my current trackday weapon plus the weekend sportscar with just the 12C ("GT").

I'll try to find out more in summer when visiting the MTC.

2 yrs sounds about right. There is clearly demand for it and it's a tough market these days. If it is announced it will come shortly after the 458 "scud" is shown. I am confident they will build it.

This is Joe @ Fabspeed Motorsports USA.
we have designed and engineered a rear MP4-12C Harness bar in 4130N light weight Chromoloy steel and 5 and 6 point mounts for race belts. The rear harness bar will accept a fire extinguisher and Video camer mount.

IT can be color matched to the interior or powdercoated black. Fabspeed has also designed and manufactured undercar TIE Down points for trailer towing and an emergency from tow hook that accepts a Camera nd flods down too.

Work on race quality floor mats and a dead pedal. Catbypass pipes and sports race catalytic converters should be completed and DYNO tested next week.

Email [email protected] and visit our website for details as we complete engineering, dynotesting and validation.

Joe, that sounds very interresting. Any pictures from an installed harness bar ?

As this must be absolutely safe, how do you achieve a 100% secure mounting for the bar and the beck/lower belts ?

Would be great if you could share some details. Thank you !

at the middle of the page, with an internal photo of the bar in a 458

"Description:

Please specify the distance from driver to passenger side crotch point as this can change with different seat options.
Fabspeed manufactures a harness bar out of 4130 Chromoly to be used with any 5-point safety belt.
Kit includes the bar for the driver/passenger."

I will try to post some pictures this week. The 4130N Chromoloy light weight shoulder harness bar attaches to stock McLaren super strong factory weldments/ bolt on points. Fabspeed's harness bar was designed by a mechanical engineer with Detroit Big 3 experience. He designed it to be supre strong, lightweight and also alow a fire extinguisher and Go Pro type camera to be mounted in the middle between the seats.

The Fabspeed Motorsport USA waterjet cut and tig welded harness bar comes in plain steel ready to piant to match the exterior color of your car and can be ordered is satin black or powdercoated to virtually any color. This customers car is Heritage Orange and most likely the bar will be orange and highlight the black interior.

WE should be able to post photos later this week along with installation instructions and other bits. Right now we are completeing 200 cell Sports racing catalytic converters that will bolt to the rear stock muffler or factory sport exhaust. Next we are completing a rear super sport X pipe that will greatly outflow the factory $5000 H pipe, Quad tips and stock tips are also finishing devlopment.

For RACER'S and McLaren owners looking for maximum performance and sports car sound and massive flames..........CATalytic converter bypass pipes / straight pipes are being engineered for simple bolt-on. The Twin Turbos should really whistle and make great "weed wacking noises" with no restrictions! The car should sound like its on the GRID at Lemans>

Thanks for the update Joe. Very interrested in the upcoming pictures !

As for the seats. The standard seats are not suited for the use with harness, what kind of aftermarket seats did your customer go for and how difficult was it to install them ? Probably Recaro Pole Position ABE would be a good choice as they allow to keep 3-point beside 5/6 point harness.

From my visit at the MTC:

I "somehow got the impression" ( :D ) that some sportier version might be in the pipeline but no confirmation or even date was provided.

Unfortunately I also didn't got any further information about the MSO harness bar/sport seats project.

Overall I didn't got the information I was hoping for so I'll stay on hold with my order and see what happens over the next couple of months.

The arrival of the 991 GT3 and 458 Challenge might speed things up a bit, or at least the flow of information.

MSO did confirm to me that the harness bar is coming soon and they are working on it. I do have the new UK MSO price list for their more common requests. There are a lot of items on that list. A significant change from 6 months ago.
