Perhaps you didn't mean it that way, but that's not a photo of a real car. It's an altered rendering using of one of the original 12C coupe press images. McLaren have not yet released anything official - photographs or press info - confirming the convertible version of the 12C.

However...

One solid clue towards McLaren's future plans was revealed (perhaps accidentally?) in one of the early floorplan images they released of the new McLaren Production Centre.

In it you can clearly see a section labeled "Webasto RHT Sub Assy"

Webasto is a German company that makes, among other things, convertible tops for different manufacturers.

The "RHT" in McLaren's description seems to imply that the 12C Spider (or whatever they eventually call it) will have a 'Retractable Hard Top'. I look forward to seeing how it is all packaged together as well as the weight difference from the Coupe. It may not change much since the chassis should not require extra strengthening like most cut-coupe convertibles.

Here's the rear view that AutoExpress created, along with one other rendering that seems less realistic as there doesn't appear to be any rollover protection.

Doesn't Webasto make the tops for Ferrari ?
They definitely make the folding hardtop for the Californias and also were responsible for that rotating roof on the 575 SuperAmerica. Not sure what else they may have collaborated on.

looks like f430 top photoshop to the 12c:rolleyes:
Of course - that would be the most logical choice. Again, none of these images are 'real' yet.

Sorry if this is a repost! ...but if some think the styling of the hardtop leaves them feeling a bit cold, I think this may be the answer:

MP4-12C Convertible

Very sexy!
"McLaren’s clever engineers are determined to keep weight down, despite the extra pounds that come with necessary chassis stiffening and the top mechanism itself."

Given the tub that chassis stiffening should not be necessary?

That would be my understanding.

I'm more of a coupe guy, but I think the 12C is going to make a stunning drop-top. Its every day usability should make it a hot seller, too, I would imagine.

No worries - I just thought pointing to it would prevent further duplication of content.

A merge and cleanup would be great though.

Not much to see really, but I didn't see anyone else here mentioning it or perhaps I wasn't paying attention again? :D

Here's another pair of speculative renderings:
