@Mikeyb spectacular run 😀 and with F1 like energy management.
“I didn’t expect that we would be able to set such a lap time with these track conditions,” Engel, who is a successful Formula E and DTM driver and winner of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, said after the run. “In some crucial areas of the track, it hadn’t dried completely yet and was therefore tricky.”
okay thanks.. i didn't particuarly notice that but if was honest wasn't really paying attention either.. !

Very weak time for a factory lap … I would expect a Senna to be faster using a similar effort
kinda odd feeling isn't it... car doesn't look particuarly quick, even though of course it is.. i was expecting it to do shattering speeds on teh straights and don't get me wrong they'r quick but only quicker than my p1 by about 4kmh on say the dottinger, so it's clearly getting the laptime from the aero and grip levels...

just doesnt look or sound particuarly fast.. but clearly it is... !

then we just get in to the endless debate of the exponential retial cost of that small amount of reduction in lap time..

yes same feeling … it’s maybe the the weight as 1670kg is way too heavy and 1063hp will not push it over 355-360kph on a 10km straight … however whatI find even stranger is that this record is even acceptable as the car uses a configuration that is not road legal - it’s track mode is not a configuration you are allowed to use on public roads …
well true, but then no one would be interested in the p1 either ... and that wasn't true at the time... its still a standard part of the car.. they probably raised the ride height a little for the ring, which would mean that it would be useable on the road.. although not sure whether in those modes it passes the pedestrian crash test and the like.. but have no clue there..

but i personally don't have a problem that it has a mode that isn't road legal, that is meant to make it go quick on track..

I would absolutely try driving a P1 in race mode on the street if I could afford one, lol…
well .. strictly. its race mode 2... a mode that was formulated by MSO to raise the ride height by i think it's 20 mm, put a bit more rake in so as not to lose too much downforce et voila.. now you can drive it on the street, even if i believe it's illegal still from a pedestrian collision perspective..

it has a slightly more oversteer bias to it also.. but its marginal...

quite fun blasting around the country and then heading into a village and putting all the wings away whilst passers by think they're looking at a scene from the transformers or the like..

speed bumps are still a significant challenge..

Misha talks rubbish because he guessed the time to be under 6:30 in some of his previous videos/posts and now has an egg on his face. And also crawling up Mercedes's ass for providing him with early access to the press release and video.

In any case, the speculation is beside the point. MB had the car on the Ring for year and a half and they for sure did the usual BS like using shaved, pre-heated tires, race gas, etc. The team had countless opportunities to do a lap and the backing of one of biggest automotive companies in the world. Like I said, there are always excuses. If the driver didn't make a mistake there, if that spot on the track wasn't dirty, if the tires weren't cold at the start, if it wasn't too hot, or too windy, or too damp... There isn't a single manufacturer who put the car around the Ring and said the conditions were perfect and that it was the absolute maximum the car could ever do. At some point you just have to say that the buck stops here. And MB for sure won't be redoing the lap any time soon.
i think you'd enjoy the book of racing driver excuses, by every racing driver that ever exists...

i suspect its your type of publication... ;-)

anyone and everyone could always go faster... allegedly, according to them at least..
