I'm filling up spots for Austin but I have some available still. April 6-10, shoot me a message with what you need. I know many of you need annual service from last April!

WTFmate! You're always welcome to drop in and see what's going on, I'll be the only one there, may have some free time Sunday too.

Thanks. Not sure where you’ll be hanging your hat and on timeline. also I suspect you’ll be buried with work, but if you have some time and inclination to meet up with one of your fans, and the timing works out, would be my privilege to buy you a beer/coffee and chew the fat for a few.

Hotel in Cedar Park, shop on the edge of Leander. I will be quite busy, but I've always gotta eat sometime.

New engine? What happened …. :(
Well, several months back, after I had the check engine light, come on, the heads were replaced. When I finally got the car back, and I took it out I noticed the engine felt flat on its first drive out for a day. It’s a really hard feeling to explain. Because if you put the throttle down, the car still had plenty of power and could leave tire tracks for quite a long way up a mountain road. It just felt off.

Then the next day I got a check engine light again when the car was cold, which is how the check engine light came on in the first place before the heads were replaced. In the first instance, it would go away after the car got past the cold rough idle. But here, I think the second time I turned on the engine and the check engine light came on and stayed permanently on.

At this point, I decided I needed to do something different and sent the car back home to Mclaren Philedelphia. They took quite a while examining the car, and McLaren headquarters participated and came to the decision that it would be better to change the engine and know they solved the problem. They were finding some weak compression, in I believe two of the cylinders, but one in particular, and speculated it had something to do with the cam phasers/timing being off, but it wasn’t fully clear what was going on and if fixing those things would put an end to the problems (I’ve probably had the car working in my possession like maybe 3months out of the last 15)—speculation might be timing/compression wasn’t done spot on when the heads were replaced. And I apologize, I don’t really understand a lot of the technical explanations and I’m going from memory so my understanding may be imperfect.

But to both McLaren corporate and McLaren Phili‘s credit they were afraid they would be spending good money after bad, and it made more sense to just replace the engine and resolve the problem once and for all. All I can say is I’m super grateful.

They are building me a brand new engine! It may take 3months or so, then ship it over and install. So hopefully I get my car back sometime towards the end of summer.

You know nothing is perfect in this world. Not any thing or any person. But sometimes people surprise you in how good and kind they can be. That car has long ago become family. There is no rationality about it. It’s like the perfect baseball mitt, or pet or something like that. No doubt there are better mitts/pets out there. Probably no one else in the world sees it as valuable…but you do. Kind of stupid I guess.

Anyway, I’m really grateful we are not losing it, and really grateful for how wonderful Mclaren corp and Mclaren PhilI have been taking care of it.

That's a textbook case of throw everything at it and you'll end up replacing the problem. I'm still tracking down a problem for another customer who got told he needed a $73k engine he brought in for a misfire. He still drive the car every day.

I assume the car is still under warranty ( which seems odd for a 12C)?

Yes, I've been extending the warranty all this time. I'm the original owner.
